Capcom has used the setting of San Diego’s ComicCon to announce a new HD Strider title, to be developed by Double Helix. A Strider title was found by the folks at Neogaf to be hanging around Xbox Live Arcade and the Steam database back in March, and chances are pretty high that this is the same game. Double Helix has confirmed that it’ll be getting a PC release on their website.

As Strider Hiryu, your mission will be to “assassinate Grandmaster Meio, supreme dictator of Earth, who has plunged humanity into a dystopian dark age.” Sounds like a fairly clear-cut case for assassination, to be honest.

The title will be presented in 2.5D and is said to offer a more open level structure than previous Strider titles. Whisper the term “Metroidvania” softly, under your breath. As Double Helix puts it: “The traditional level structure has been replaced with a retraceable world and a deep ability upgrade system which enables Hiryu to build more power and abilities to penetrate ever deeper into the dystopian adventure.”
