Over the weekend, Capcom showed up at San Diego Comic-Con and made some small announcements. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any new character or new footage reveals for Street Fighter 6. However, longtime fans of the series did get a little treat. Capcom has confirmed that Street Fighter 6 will feature classic costumes for some of its roster.
Capcom showed off the classic costumes with a tweet over the weekend. Ryu, Chun-Li, and Guile will each be able to sport their classic designs from Street Fighter‘s early days. To be clear, Street Fighter is well known for giving its characters plenty of alternate costumes. We’ve seen other games feature classic costumes, like in Street Fighter 5 for example. Still, it’s always nice to see some love for these classic looks.
There are still a few unanswered questions regarding the costumes, though. It isn’t quite clear whether they’ll be a free part of the game or come as paid DLC. Capcom is notorious for making a huge amount of DLC content for their games. This is both a good thing and an annoying aspect of their newer titles. It’s awesome to see a varying amount of alternate designs, but it’s grating to have most of them locked behind a paywall.
Could this be Street Fighter 6‘s first DLC?
We also aren’t sure if Ryu, Chun-Li, and Guile will be the only characters to get these costumes. Since that trio is arguably the most famous in Street Fighter‘s roster, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were the only characters to get them. Beyond that, we aren’t certain which character will return for Street Fighter 6. There was the apparent roster leak in June, which might’ve given us those details, but leaks aren’t trustworthy until we see something more substantial.
But for now, let’s focus on the classic costumes that have been shown off for Street Fighter 6. They all look fantastic, and to see these classic looks represented in Street Fighter 6’s updated art style is awesome to see. Hopefully, as character reveals start happening, we get to see more alternate costumes as well.
