Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of 2024. With many new and returning features, players anxiously await the end of February to get their hands on it. But a few rumors have made players wonder: can you play without Cloud in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — Can you play without Cloud?
Unlike FF7 Remake, Rebirth is slated to have a larger amount of party members than players can use in battle. This is something that people have expressed their feelings about vehemently. But what we do know, is that the likes of Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cait Sith will be playable, along with Aerith, Tifa, and Barret. And while he is the story’s central character, you may want to try different party comps that don’t include Cloud.

The ability to swap who you control mid-fight was a feature introduced in FF7 Remake. What’s more, it seems like this feature will be making its way to Rebirth. However, speculation and rumors have fueled the narrative that you could theoretically swap Cloud out of the party and fight without him. This is both right and wrong. According to the devs, certain parts of FF7 Rebirth’s story will take place from different points of view. For example, Barret’s storyline could be one of these sections where you focus on Barret, therefore he will take on the quest on his own (with the help of a cunning ninja).
Sadly, outside of these story moments, players will not be able to fight without Cloud. Which makes sense, considering the story implications throughout the entire game. Unfortunately, players will have to keep dreaming of a day when they can frolic through Gaia as Red XIII.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is still a ways off, but past news drops hinted at a vast array of boss battles and minigames.
