One of the coolest features of Dungeons & Dragons, the famous tabletop RPG, is multiclassing. If you’re brave enough, you can decide to not just be one class, but a unique mixture of two. But what about Baldur’s Gate 3? This video game RPG connects with the D&D universe, and proves to have most of the features from D&D 5e. Fans have been wondering whether or not you can also multiclass in Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, which we will answer below.
Is there multiclassing in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Luckily, the answer to whether or not you can multiclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a yes! Although Larian Studioes confirmed multiclassing a few years ago on Reddit, the developers further explained it during a Release Showcase livestream. During the Early Access period, multiclassing is not available. But upon its full release, Baldur’s Gate 3 will let you multiclass.
Since it’s such a staple feature of D&D 5e, it’s no surprise seeing it become a feature in this game. During the livestream on July 7, 2023, Lead Systems Designer Nick Pechenin stated the following.
In multiclassing, there are a lot of really cool combinations, there are some combinations that don’t quite work, and we want the players to really experiment with what is possible.
If you’re interested in being a Bard, but also want to have Warlock spells, you can do that! Or perhaps you like playing Fighters, but you also want to heal your party as a Cleric, you can also do that. The possibilities, although not endless, are quite expansive.
To start multiclassing, you need the ability score requirements. For example, you’ll need at least a score of 13 in one or two abilities if you want to multiclass. It depends on the class you’re picking for which abilities they are. And while you’ll gain a level in the new class you picked, you’ll have to forgo leveling up your main class. Basically, every time you level up, you’ll have to choose which class you want to upgrade.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on Steam.
