There has been a lot of talk lately about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting its own variation of a battle royale mode, called Warzone. And a new report suggests that players won’t have to wait too long for it. According to sources at VGC, the hit shooter will see the Warzone mode make its debut sometime in early March. This comes just days after other clues and reports that the new battle royale map was deep in development.
VGC notes that the update could drop as soon as March 10. However, that’s obviously not a final date, as development could easily delay its release until Infinity Ward deems it just right to release.
Further information from their sources divulge that the Warzone mode will be made available separately. Players will reportedly be able to play the mode for free, with the option to upgrade to the full Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game if they want the rest of it.
No official word on Warzone from Infinity Ward
At the moment, Infinity Ward hasn’t said a word about the new mode. It’s currently in the midst of Season Two of the hit game, which reintroduces fan favorite Ghost, among other updates.
However, given the popularity of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode, the possibility is definitely there. Warzone could easily bring in more players for the long haul. Not to mention that having it as a free-to-play game is a brilliant way to bring in more purchases of Modern Warfare, which is already selling up a storm.
We’ll see what the company announces over the next few weeks. For the time being, the second season of Modern Warfare is happening now. Players can get in on this free update by downloading the full game. Check out the trailer above if you need a taste of things to come.
