All of the social networking and statistical side of Call of Duty Elite will be free to every Xbox 360 and PS3 Call of Duty player in Black Ops 2. However, ‘Elite‘ will no longer include any map pack DLC, which is now separated off into a ‘Season Pass’ priced at around $50 USD. Activision says it is “evaluating” bringing the ‘Elite‘ features to the PC and Wii versions.
Xbox Live has a limited DLC exclusivity period, so the map pack stuff will be appearing on Xbox 360 first. There, the ‘Season Pass’ for four planned DLC releases is priced at 4,000 MS Points (a slight discount compared with buying all four individually at 1,200 MS Points each). Of course if you only end up wanting one or two, then buying individually will be much cheaper.
‘Season Pass’ pre-orders are said to be available now from certain retailers, and the DLC itself is scheduled for a staggered release across 2013. The press release announcing this notes that “Season Pass and DLC Map Packs may not be available on all gaming platforms. Pricing and release dates may vary by platform,” so be aware of that before you put any money down.
