If you’re a Diablo 4 player, you’re no stranger to The Butcher. This hulking monstrosity lurks in Dungeons and attacks players with a giant meat hook! This beast is a force to be reckoned with in Diablo and is arguably even more terrifying in Call of Duty. Seeing The Butcher from a first-person perspective is a treat, albeit a horrifying one. Let me show you how to defeat the Butcher in Call of Duty (COD) The Haunting Operation Nightmare.

How to defeat The Butcher in Operation Nightmare
There’s more to The Butcher encounter than keeping your fingers crossed and randomly encountering it. The Butcher doesn’t roam the map like it does in Diablo 4. If you want a date with the Butcher, you need to summon it first.
How to spawn the Butcher in The Haunting
I managed to summon the Butcher in DMZ with randoms, so don’t despair if you’re a solo player. Head to Al Mazrah and try to direct your team to the mission icon. Each boss has a specific Icon, and you can check what you’re heading toward by hovering over it on your map. The Butcher Icon is pictured above.
You can start a Ritual in this location by interacting with any of the Lilith statues around the summoning circle. When you begin the Ritual, slow-moving Zombies will shuffle toward the area; you’ll need to keep them at bay throughout.
Once the Ritual is complete, a line of fire will appear on the ground, starting from the Statue you interacted with at the beginning. You need to do this on other Statues around the circle to mark out a pentagram on the ground. Once the symbol is drawn, a portal will appear in the center. Head inside for your showdown with The Butcher.
How to defeat the Butcher
You’ll find an arena inside the Portal full of Zombies. Visibility is pretty poor in here, but you can usually see the Butcher, thanks to his blue glowing meat hoot. The Butcher is surprisingly fast and chases random players around the arena. If he gets close, I recommend turning away and Tac Sprinting to gain some distance.
Magical beast or not, the Butcher will still fall to regular gunfire. This task is easier with friends, as you’ll have a much better time landing shots if you’re not being chased. Remember to keep the Zombies in check, too, as they are still a threat, especially if you run into a group of them.
The Butcher periodically slams the ground, which damages anyone nearby. Fortunately, this attack is well-telegraphed, and if you keep your distance, you’ll be fine.
Throwables work well against the Butcher. I was able to do decent damage with Drill Charges, and I used an Iso 45 and Iso Hemlock for the rest. This Boss is a bullet sponge, so don’t take risks and prioritize making space.
Are there any rewards for defeating the Butcher?
If you manage to take the Boss down in his lair, you’ll unlock a Transmog that matches the mighty Butcher Meat Hook. This is a fitting reward as this is a tough objective to complete. Other Operators are always a threat in DMZ, so don’t get disheartened if you can’t complete this right away. The Haunting event is live for a while, so you have plenty of opportunities to take down The Butcher.
