Call Of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Reveal

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Treyarch has lifted the lid on some of the multiplayer modes for Call of Duty: Black Ops .
A brand new currency model is being utilised with players being rewarded with COD points as they progress in the online multiplayer. These points will be able to be spent in a variety of ways including betting them in the new Wager Matches.
“Wager Matches are these four brand new, free-for-all based game modes that we created for Black Ops. These game modes were designed to be pure kind-of adrenaline junkie fun,” design director David Vonderhaar explained during the announcement trailer which can be found below.
Online director, Dan Bunting continued, “These are separate from your standard ranked progression in your online competitive play. In Wager Matches you take the currency that you’ve earned and you can gamble it against other players, and what you’re gambling on is that you’re going to come in the top three on the final scoreboard.”
Being one of the top three players in Wager Matches will put you “in the money” while every other player will go broke and lose the points they put up in the match.
The four game modes which can be found in the trailer are called, One in the Chamber, Sticks and Stones, Gun Game and Shapshooter with all four being remotely different and feeling fresh.
One in the Chamber gives all the players three lives and a pistol with one shot. If you kill an enemy with the shot you gain their bullet but if you miss you are left to using melee attacks to survive. This is promising to make players think about when they decide to shoot and also presents “the highest level of tension” because of it being so unforgiving.
Sticks and Stones equips players with the crossbow, ballistic knife and a tomahawk. Killing an opponent with the throwable tomahawk will automatically bankrupt a player.
Gun Game is a mode where better players will progress to much more powerful weapons depending on how well they do. Players start off with the basic pistol and then killing an enemy will then equip you with the next level of weapons and so forth until you are equipped with the likes of a rocket launcher. However there is a twist with players going back down a level if they are knifed.
Finally Sharpshooter puts players into the game with the same randomly selected weapon, after a certain length of time the weapon is replaced with another random weapon. The more kills you get the better the perks you receive and finally if your streak is long enough you will soon earn multiplier bonuses for points.
Other features for the multiplayer include a brand new gun customisation option allowing you to place clan tags and stickers on your weapons. The ability to rotate and resize them as you apply them to the weapons is also possible.
Check out the trailer below where you will see a brand new mini-gun revealed along with a wide variety of weapons you may or may not of known about. We will have a Call of Duty: Black Ops single player interview later today.
