Treyarch is now rolling out the closed alpha test of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 modding tools.
CoD modding tools are long overdue, it’s been eight long years in fact. Treyarch is now sending out invites to a select group of testers and once they are happy with the results there will be an open beta.
Preparing the tools for this kind of release takes an incredible amount of testing and iteration. We’re excited to have reached this milestone and to be able to provide the participants of our Closed Alpha this version of the Modding Tools to help us test them and lay the foundation for an Open Beta. Once we are able to analyze the results of the Closed Alpha, it’s our intention to kick off the subsequent Open Beta stage of testing in the following months.
During the next few months, you’ll likely begin to hear from the participants of the Closed Alpha about their experiences working with the tools and working with us. Along the way, we’ll also keep you updated
When the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3Â mod tools are released, modders will be able to create their own maps, game modes, unranked dedicated server files for modded servers, and an unranked server browser to join servers with modded content.
How long the alpha test will run prior to a beta is unknown but keep an eye on Treyarch’s twitter account for updates.
