It’s just been announced that Bungie, best known for its Halo franchise, and Activision have just signed up to a ten year partnership.Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future new games and IPs from Bungie, across all platforms.Bungie will retain its independence, and will continue to work with their own intellectual properties, but Activision hopes to extend its reach, especially now there are rumours that Modern Warfare 3 will either be developed by another studio, or stopped completely.Bungie seems to be the perfect replacement for Infinity Ward, and with IPs such as Halo, Mythos and Marathon behind them, Activision will be looking to make sure it retains its market lead with more original IPs.”Bungie is one of the premier studios in our industry and we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work with their talented team over the next decade,” stated Thomas Tippl, chief operating officer of Activision Blizzard.”Bungie has developed some of the most compelling and successful games, multiplayer experiences and thriving fan communities, and this alliance underscores our long-standing commitment to foster the industry’s best creative talent. Our unprecedented partnership with Bungie will enable us to broaden our pipeline of exciting new games as we continue to strengthen our industry position and pursue long-term growth opportunities.”Bungie seem unfazed by the recent Infinity Ward media circus.”We chose to partner with Activision on our next IP because of their global reach, multi-platform experience and marketing expertise,” said Harold Ryan, president of Bungie.”From working together over the past nine months on this agreement, it is clear that Activision supports our commitment to giving our fans the best possible gaming experiences,” Ryan said.Activision, having now a partnership with Blizzard, Bungie and a distribution partnership with Square Enix (Activision titles are distributed by Square Enix in Japan) means the publisher really is now one of the most influential in the world. We’ll see how it rocks out over the next decade, but our thoughts and best wishes go to Bungie. Good luck!
