EA, Epic and People Can Fly have today officially announced the development of new shooter Bulletstorm following the magazine reveal over the weekend.

The game tells the story of Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato, two elite members of mercenary unit Dead Echo, hired to protect a “futuristic federation.” However, they soon find out they’ve been conned into working for the wrong side and are promptly exiled to a remote planet populated by mutants and flesh-eating gangs. Western-super-Mare, then.

The game is centred around the concept of “kill with skill” and is set to feature big guns, OTT combat moves and the “skillshot” feature which rewards players who get creative with their chaos. The more creative the skillshot, the bigger the XP reward which can be used to upgrade your character and weapons which, in turn, provides access to more skillshot techniques.

“We’re very excited to work with Epic Games and People Can Fly on this new project. The first time we laid eyes on Bulletstorm, we instantly knew this is going to be the next big hit from these two great studios delivering yet again an entirely new experience for shooter fans,” said EA Partners’ David DeMartini.

Bulletstorm is due for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski was expected to announce the game on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight (alongside Gears of War 3) but it seems he pulled the old switcheroo.

“I never said 2 games ON Fallon, I said 2 games on MONDAY. Y’all inferred 2 games on the show,” he tweeted.

Quite the trickster, it seems.
