BT Users Experience RIFT Open Beta Latency Issues

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

UK based BT users were dismayed to discover that their connections during the RIFT open Beta test are being throttled by BT’s anti peer to peer system which throttles any traffic deemed to be peer to peer traffic.
The problem has arisen in the Open Beta test because TRION changed the ports the game uses and BT’s system is now picking up RIFT traffic as peer to peer traffic. This is not the first time this has happened here in the UK, a few months ago Virgin Media subscribers were experiencing the same issues with World of Warcraft.
TRION are well aware of the problem and have reached out to BT to try and find a resolution:

Our Network Engineering team has been made aware of the issue and they are reaching out to BT Internet now. I’ll update when more information is available. Thanks for reporting this!

UK gamers will note that after 11PM the throttling measures usually turn off and ping times will return to normal. Based on feedback from BT, it looks like TRION may have to change ports as it’s unlikely BT will budge on the issue.
As soon as we know more we’ll keep you posted here on the site.
