Splash Damage don’t always get the recognition they deserve. Responsible for both Brink and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, they’re prepared to push the boat out and try new ideas. Granted, some of those ideas don’t always work but it’s unfair to attack the studio on those elements and forget about others that work and/or show great potential.
Brink, for example, received some terrible reviews. Being the enlighted souls we are, we scored it 9/10. The correct score.
However, perhaps all is set to change for the public image of Splash Damage as it has been revealed that they’re worked on “at least one unannounced project for a major entertainment brand.”
Supposedly this mysterious game will make use of existing “online multiplayer technology” and that the thinking on the publisher end is that “once a collection of well-known characters are laid over the top of an even more polished Brink genre, there’s going to be a lot of excitement from genre fans.”
The only hints as to the nature of the project is that it’s “based on one of the biggest American pop culture brands of the last 50 years” and that Splash Damage are partnering with “a company widely believed to have given up on the console publishing business.”
Speculation is rife that the partner is Disney, the Mickey Mouse house having signalled that they’re less interested in console game production. They have also recently purchased Marvel.
