Blizzard’s new MMO complementary to WoW?

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

In an interview with VentureBeat, Blizzard COO Paul Sams says new MMO is more “complementary than competitive” and that they “intend to continue to support [World of Warcraft] for many many years to come”.
Details of Blizzard’s new MMO project have been rather thin on the ground so, frankly, we’re happy to hear anything at all about it. Blizzard are still keeping their cards very close to their chest but interesting new bits and pieces are starting to appear.
Speaking about the project, Sams said “we believe that it will be more complementary than competitive. And while people do have a limited amount of free time that they can devote to these types of games, we do think that people will want to check out the new and the old. We think the new one is very compelling and is going to capture a lot of hearts and minds and will be very successful for us.”
In reference to MMO mega-franchise World of Warcraft, Sams promised that Blizzard “intend absolutely positively to continue to support the existing product” and that they “believe that many people will continue playing World of Warcraft because they have such a huge collection of friends and community.”
He also spared a word for the dev team themselves:
“We have taken some of our most experienced developers and put them on this project. We believe we have a dream team. These are the people who made WoW a success. We are going to blow people’s minds.”
Let’s hope so.
