Blizzard working on new PvP focused first person shooter

Blizzard is working on a few unannounced projects but there are more details for one of these thanks to a new jobs posting.

The new position is for a Senior/Principal Game Designer and it is specifically looking for someone with “experience in developing weapons, abilities, and gameplay systems in action or first-person shooter games”. It also appears that the title will be competitive PvP focused as it goes on to say, ” extensive knowledge and passion for competitive first-person shooter games.”

That’s good evidence to suggest that at least one of their unannounced projects is a shooter. We have not idea whether it will be a new IP or tied to an existing franchise but it’s unlikely to be an Overwatch sequel as that has not been out long enough. As it’s PvP and competitive that would also rule out a new shooter to expand on the Overwatch lore with perhaps a single player campaign.

Another possibility is a StarCraft tie-in. Blizzard has attempted it with StarCraft Ghost which was actually quite good when we played it. As it’s PvP perhaps it’s a Battlefield-like game set in the StarCraft Universe with troops and vehicles. Dustin Browder who worked on StarCraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm is thought to be heading-up this new project so StarCraft could be a possible link.

There is one other option, and it would not be out of the question as Blizzard’s creativity is not exactly what it once was, a battle royale game. A battle royale set in the Starcraft universe? Hopefully not. I am not sure even Blizzard would try and take that genre on right now.

Whatever it is, hopefully, it won’t get canned before it sees the light of day like Titan. Although that turned out rather well for Blizzard as it became Overwatch. Right now we pretty much know they are working on this project and a new Diablo game of some sort.
