With Gamescom looming and speculation that the Diablo 3 expansion will be announced next week in Cologne, Blizzard has filed the trademark of “The Dark Below” which was posted on Scribd.

While we have no confirmation from Blizzard regarding what the trademark is related to, and we won’t receive any, our hopes are that this will be the title of the new Diablo 3 expansion. But before you you take this as some sort of Diablo 3 confirmation, there is a possibility that it’s a World of Warcraft expansion as the term The Dark Below is related to the WoW universe.

In the WoW universe The Dark Below refers to demons residing in “The Dark Below”, a seperate faction that reside in a mysterious plane of existence.

Last week Blizzard sent out press invites related to Diablo 3 which read as follows:

“You are invited to join Blizzard Entertainment at a press conference on the first day of gamescom 2013. We’re making a special announcement that’ sure to capture the attention of the Heavens, Burning Hells and all the shadowed places that lie between.”

Based on this and the fact that  some sort of new cinematic was being prepared for the event, it’s looking promising for Diablo 3 players who are waiting for long overdue game improvements which are expected to be revealed prior to Blizzcon.

Stay tuned for some sort of reveal next week.

Thanks MMO-Champion.
