In an E3 interview with Joystiq, Epic Games’ CliffyB has voiced the opinion that the games industry is “scared” by used game sales.
Speaking about the methods used by publishers seeking to maximise revenue from titles, Bleszinski said “The industry is nervous, right? It’s very scared about used game sales.” He then raised the dilemma for developers over the subject of game rentals – make a great, single-player only title and many will simply rent it.
“You want to make a game that has a great single-player experience, but continues online, continues to breath,” he said.
Bleszinski also appears to disagree with the philosophy behind the Online Pass approach being taken by EA, instead favouring positive incentives for players.
“Penalizing is not the best way to deal with things like that” he said, “You attract more flies with honey than with vinegar.”
Wait … did he just call us all flies?
