Yaoguai Cores are one of the most important crafting materials in Black Myth Wukong. This rare crafting material isn’t easy to come by, so we created this guide detailing the locations of Yaoguai Cores and the best ways to obtain them.
Where to find Yaoguai Cores in Black Myth Wukong
The three main ways to acquire Yaoguai Cores in Black Myth Wukong are by defeating elite enemies and bosses, looting chests, or purchasing them from the store at a Keeper’s Shrine.
While not a guaranteed drop, main bosses and side/hidden bosses tend to have the highest chance of dropping Yaoguai Cores. The same goes for the more challenging enemies or ones that don’t respawn after defeating them one time. Usually, an enemy that rewards you with their spirit will drop a Yaoguai Core.
Exploring as much as possible and opening chests is also another great way to earn Yaoguai Cores. I have realized that chests are very well hidden, so make sure to search every nook and cranny of every area to increase your chances of finding chests with Yaoguai Cores.
The absolute best way to get Yaoguai Cores in Black Myth Wukong is by purchasing them from the store at a Keeper’s Shrine. Yaoguai Cores become available at the store starting at Chapter 2 and only go for 900 Will. If you’re short on Will and can’t afford the Yaoguai Core, you can always sell items or Pieces of Gold to possibly earn enough Will for the purchase.
Best places to farm Yaoguai Cores
There is no definite way to farm Yaoguai Cores in Black Myth Wukong, but there are steps you can take to increase your chances of getting them. Due to Yaoguai Cores being an important crafting material for early-game weapons, your best bet is to search the areas of Chapters 1 and 2 as thoroughly as possible and follow the methods in the previous section.
I have noticed that Black Myth Wukong drip feeds important crafting materials depending on where you’re at in the story, so it’s smart to search the earlier areas if you need Yaoguai Cores. In other words, focus on searching Black Wind Mountain (chapter 1) and Yellow Wind Ridge (chapter 2) for chests, hidden bosses, and killing as many challenging enemies as possible in those two areas. This is the best way to farm Yaoguai Cores.
As you’re focusing on these two areas, you’ll most likely acquire a ton of Tiny Pieces of Gold, which can then be sold at the store for Will. Use this Will to purchase Yaoguai Cores from the store, but keep in mind there is only a limited supply. After purchasing all the Cores available in the store, you’ll have to wait for it to restock.
What are Yaoguai Cores used for?
Yaoguai Core’s main purpose is to craft weapons at Keeper’s Shrines, especially in the early game. I highly recommend checking the crafting menu whenever you find Yaoguai Cores to see if there’s any weapon available that’s better than the one you’re currently using. The good news is that the game will show a red dot next to “Craft Weapons” if there is a new upgrade available.
