It may not seem like it, but Black Myth Wukong has many secret areas within each chapter. The semi-linear nature of levels feels rewarding when going off the beaten path, as you find things that can be helpful for major bosses later in the chapters. Let’s take a look at the first instance of this, here’s all Black Myth Wukong bell locations to unlock the Secret Elder Jinchi boss.
How to ring the three bells in Black Myth Wukong
While the majority of Black Myth Wukong is all about bosses and grandiose set pieces, there’s still a lot to scour the limited lands for. Cast and point, partway through Chapter 1 you can find these large bells that will ring out when activated. Finding all three bells will grant you access to a secret area and a hidden boss fight.
If you’d like to grab all three bells at the same time, then we recommend beating the White Clad Noble first. Defeating this boss will not only progress you further in the story but also grant you access to every bell the first region has to offer. You may even find yourself a few meditation spots along the way to finding this secret. With all that preamble out of the way let’s start by showing you the location for the very first bell.
Bell #1 — Outside the Forest (Forest of Wolves)
The first bell is located fairly early on in the game, and you might not even know you already passed it. But in case you did, teleport to the Outside the Forest Incense Shrine in the Forest of Wolves. Then, you’ll want to head back to where you fought the optional boss Guangzhi.
If you forgot where this is or haven’t reached it yet, head forward from the shrine and quickly take a left before continuing onward over a bridge. You can use the flame pots on the ground to help guide you to the right place.
Go past the bridge and follow the flame until you reach Guangzhi’s boss arena. Once he’s defeated, walk directly behind where he spawned, and you’ll see the first of three bells you must ring. Upon interacting with it, the small old man who helped turn you into a cicada earlier tells you that you are disturbing the forest. Which is exactly what we want to do.
Bell #2 — Marsh of White Mist (Bamboo Grove)
The second and third bells are so close to each other that we’ll be using the exact same shrine in order to reach both of them. After teleporting, you’ll want to go backward down a green pathway to reach the second bell.
Once you make it out of the narrow passageway, hang right until you see a set of stairs leading to our second bell. Ring out the bell, and the old man once again tells you of the dangers of ringing said bells. What he doesn’t know is that we welcome danger with heavy staff attacks and abilities.
Bell #3 — Marsh of White Mist (Bamboo Grove)
Last but not least, our third bell is going to require us to return to the shrine in the Marsh of White Mist in the Bamboo Grove, except this time instead of going backward we go forward. Navigate down the wooden bridges past where the drunk monkey NPC is, and you should reach the area where you must fight the White Clade Noble in order to progress.
But instead of continuing forward into the temple, look left and you’ll see a pathway shrouded in a cave of darkness. Go towards the pathway and on the other side of it lies our third and final bell to ring. Upon ringing the third bell, the forest will react, and pull you into the Ancient Guanyin Temple.
Here you find some gear, materials, resources, and of course, the secret boss Elder Jinchi. Once defeated, you’ll be thrown from the ancient temple and returned to where you originally were.
What’s more, if you interact with the unfortunate soul strung up by the third bell, you receive your first vessel of the game: the Fireproof Mantle. And thankfully, if you haven’t already beaten the next main boss, the Black Wind King, then this vessel will help nicely on that boss as well as the final boss of chapter 1.
