Bethesda Sues Interplay

This article is over 15 years old and may contain outdated information

Bethesda Softworks has sued Interplay over copyright infringement according to a court filing.Project V13 is the codename for the unannounced Fallout Online, an MMORPG set in the Fallout universe, which fans have come to refer to as FOOL. Interplay licensed the rights for the project prior to selling the rights of the Fallout franchise to Bethesda. Project V13 is being developed by interplay and Bulgaria based Masthead studios, along with one of the original creators of Fallout Chris Taylor, the lead developer on the project.Bethesda claims that Interplay is in breach due to failure to acquire appropriate funding (some $30 million USD) and not started full-scale development. The deal was done on April 4th 2007 under the condition that development would commence within 24 months of that date.Being a massive Fallout fan this is bad news, can Interplay survive a lawsuit? And if they don’t will we ever get a Fallout MMORPG? Perhaps Bethesda should stop worrying about Interplay and sort out the DLC for their PS3 fans.
