What pairs best with Wizards?

Multiclassing with the Wizard class is pretty difficult due to Wizards being the only class that uses Intelligence as its main stat. So what are the best Wizard multiclass builds in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Although Wizards are pretty great on their own, there are still some good options for multiclassing. Here are some of our recommended builds.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Best multiclass Wizard builds

There are a few good multiclass options for Wizards, although they’re the only class that relies on the Intelligence ability. But some subclasses use this stat, which can work well in a Wizard’s favor. Nevertheless, here are three good options to try out for a Wizard multiclass.

Wizard (4)/Sorcerer (8)

Both of these classes are spellcasters, and you get the best of both worlds with Sorcery Points and the Wizard’s ability to learn from spell scrolls. Metamagic can be fun to play with as a Wizard/Sorcerer since you can upgrade your already incredible spells.

Also, with Arcane Recovery and the ability to create spell slots with Sorcery Points, you’ll rarely run out of spell slots. You could always try out a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer alongside an Evocation Wizard.

This would make you a pretty offensive Wizard/Sorcerer. You get Draconic Resilience for better hit points when unarmored, as well as the ability to have allies auto-succeed Saving Throws from your Evocation spells.

Wizard (2)/Rogue (10)

You may not have thought about this multiclass, but you can benefit from it by choosing to be an Arcane Trickster Rogue. This subclass uses your INT modifier, meaning your spellcasting as a Rogue can still benefit you as a Wizard.

In this instance, I would choose to be an Illusion or Divination Wizard. The former can cast Minor Illusion as a Bonus Action, while the latter can get two chances a day to change an Attack or Saving Throw roll. Both of these work well with the sneaky Arcane Trickster.

You only need to dip two levels into Wizard for the benefit of a subclass, then just use the rest of your levels for Rogue. There are plenty of nice spells you get in this Rogue subclass, but not a ton of spell slots. Luckily, Arcane Recovery can help bring some of those back.

Wizard (4)/Fighter (8)

This may also be a surprising one to you, but there’s a reason why it can work so well. The Eldritch Knight Fighter uses INT as their spellcasting modifier, so it’s perfect to pair with a Wizard multiclass. Also, to maximize the number of Feats you can get, put eight levels into Fighter and four into Wizard.

For a good Wizard subclass, I’d have to choose Evocation again. Being able to throw down Fireball without harming your allies is great. It’s also nice to have Action Surge as a Fighter to make another action, meaning you could make some melee attacks and cast a spell in the same turn.

Eldritch Knights gets quite a bit of spells by level eight, so I wouldn’t worry about not having enough spells in your arsenal. Also, allowing your Wizard to be proficient in some armor is useful to not be so squishy.
