Rift Crystals are a very special currency in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They allow you to hire Pawns more powerful than yourself and allow you to buy Pawn-centric items, and spectacles, strangely. To have a strong team, you’ll need plenty of spare Rift Crystals.
Every way to get Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Having lots of Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is incredibly useful if you want to assemble a much stronger team of Pawns when in the Rift or out and about. It’s also needed if you want to purchase anything in the Pawn Guild. Getting these Rift Crystals isn’t the easiest thing, however, or at least it’s not clear initially.
There are a few ways to get Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Firstly, you may receive some Rift Crystals upon activating a Forgotten Rift Shrine.
I’ve consistently received 30 Rift Crystals from doing this. If it doesn’t offer me a powerful Pawn for free instead. This is a one-time thing, though, so if you ever are to activate all of the Forgotten Rift Shrines, you won’t be able to get any more this way.
The main way of getting Rift Crystals is to receive them from your Main Pawn when they come back from questing.
When you sleep at an inn, upon waking up, your Pawn will give you a detailed rundown of their adventures helping other players across the Rift. Your Main Pawn is always appearing by other players’ side and may be hired concurrent to your adventure.
You will receive a bunch of Rift Crystals, so it’s important to make sure your Pawn is as hireable as possible. It is unclear as of now as to what exactly contributes to the amount of Rift Crystals received when your Pawn helps other players. Here is a list of the potential factors:
- Amount of players that hired your Main Pawn
- The ratings of players that hired your Main Pawn
- Your Main Pawn’s effectiveness when hired.
- The length of time your Main Pawn was hired for.
It is also worth noting that, rarely, you may receive Rift Crystals upon defeating an enemy, but this isn’t an effective or reliable way of gaining Rift Crystals.
So if you want to get Rift Crystals fast, you need to make sure your Pawn is as appealing to other players as possible. With an attractive Pawn, every stay at an inn will be rewarded with hundreds, if not thousands of Rift Crystals. Deeper pockets and shallow troubles, and all that.
How to get your Pawn hired more in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Each player will come across a multitude of Pawns at any one time, and there are many factors that you can’t help that may get your Pawn ignored. Another player may not wish for a Pawn of yours’ Vocation, or maybe your Pawn was shown to a player with a much higher or lower level. These things can’t be helped. However, there are many things to keep in mind to make your Pawn stand out.
The equipment, Badges, and Quest of your Pawn will contribute to them getting hired. An experienced Pawn is a valuable Pawn.
The more traveled your Pawn is, and the more conflicts they’ve been in, the more they can aid other players. Players will see these achievements through what Badges they have. This is quite a long yet passive process, as their exploits with other players will also contribute to this, but you can also streamline your adventures to work toward their Badges.
Make camp as often as you can in one region and take on fights with certain creatures to earn these Badges as quickly as possible. I know I’d hire a Pawn over another based on Badges alone – even if I’d have to pay for them.
Make sure not to neglect your Pawn’s equipment. It’s easy to get carried away donning better gear for your character, but any better equipment you come across that suits your Pawn’s vocations should be gifted to them right away. It will also be worth buying better quality gear for them, too. Not only will they be better at helping you out, but they’ll be much more valuable to other players. Note that you must equip it for them in their inventories.
Additionally, try to equip your Pawn with a Specialisation that will be useful to as many players as possible. These unique attributes will give them an edge over other less useful Specialisations. You will come across these naturally as you play, so be mindful of them.
One final thing that you can do is set enticing Pawn Quests. When your Pawn comes back from traveling after resting at an inn, you’ll get to set up a Pawn Quest. It’s well worth doing this. Whatever quest you set, you need to make sure the reward is more on the generous side. Even if your Pawn isn’t particularly better than others, you can still buy other players off.
Rewarding with rarer resources or decent sums of Gold will catch a player’s eye, even if the quest is to take down an Ogre or Minotaur. I know I wouldn’t mind tussling with a Minotaur for a few thousand Gold. Remember that as time goes on, the players seeing your Pawn will get richer, so you’ll need to amp up your rewards.
There is one more thing to keep in mind, even if you can’t influence it directly. The rating of your Pawn will also help it’s recruitability. If your Pawn was helpful, other players will either like or love your Pawn as a rating. The higher social proof you have for your Pawn, the more likely they are to be chosen over other Pawns.
With all these tips in mind, you’ll be on your way to an in-demand Pawn that’ll be bringing home lots of Rift Crystals for you to spend on stronger teams and at the Pawn Guild. You can also use them to change your and your Pawns’ appearance.
