Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance: Best stats to level up first

Anytime you level up in SMTV: Vengeance, you get to upgrade any of your five stats by one point. You have Strength, Vitality, Magic, Agility, and Luck. Overall, the best stats to focus on and level up first in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance are Strength, Agility, and Vitality.

While you may want to do a magic build, it’s pretty tough to recover MP in SMTV: Vengeance, and once you run out of MP you have to rely on Strength. That’s why upgrading your Strength more than your Magic will make you incredibly powerful against demons.

Vitality is important as well since upgrading this stat grants you more defense against enemy attacks. With Strength and Vitality up, you can focus on physical damage and tank more hits. Then there’s Agility, which buffs your evasion, turn order, and accuracy. Having a high Agility means you’ll most likely go first in any fight, you won’t miss your shots, and you can more easily dodge enemy blows.

Some players prefer a magic build that focuses on stats like Luck and Magic. Upgrading your Magic stat can improve the power of your magic abilities, while Luck affects your chances of making Critical hits, item drop rates, and your chances of being afflicted by ailments. Luck is a pretty great skill to start improving, but I’d prioritize Strength, Agility, and Vitality first.

Have your demons focus on dealing magic attacks, while you can deal the majority of the physical blows. This doesn’t mean you can’t cast any magic abilities, but it means you’ll be dealing physical damage more often than not. If you’re not interested in fighting, you can always negotiate with demons instead.
