Sorcerers and Paladins are two of the best classes in Baldur’s Gate 3, and together, you get a truly versatile, unstoppable build. I’ve played both classes and researched the best Sorcadin builds to help you create the best Sorcadin in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to make the best Sorcerer Paladin multiclass build in Baldur’s Gate 3
Sorcadins are one of the best multiclass builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 because you get access to extra attacks, powerful healing, strong melee spells, high AC thanks to the Paladin and AoE spells, high single-target damage spells, and Metamagic thanks to the Sorcerer. In general, you’re a jack-of-all-trades who performs well as a tank, distanced spellcaster, and support.

With a Sorcadin, you can play however you like. You can build around wanting to be an up-close melee fighter or a support DPS spellcaster. If you want to make the best Sorcadin, I recommend doing a bit of both. Play in the front by dealing heavy smites with your melee weapon and get creative with damage, debuff, and support spells when able.
Best Sorcadin race and background in BG3
There are a lot of great race options for the best Sorcadin which is good news because you can worry less about min/maxing and focus more on picking something fun to roleplay.
Mephistopheles Tieflings are great Sorcadins because they get fire resistance, Burning Hands, and Flame Blade. Githyanki make for fun Sorcadins because of Githyanki Psionics: Jump and Misty Step. Strongheart Halfings are great because of Lucky, resistance to Frighten, and resistance to poison damage. Any Dragonborn subrace makes for a fun and interesting Sorcadin, too. Go nuts!
The same is true for the Background — pick whatever you want to roleplay as. I recommend Guild Artisan because it gives you Insight and Persuasion which are two useful dialogue options throughout the game, but the choice is yours.
Best Sorcadin ability scores in BG3
The three ability scores you need to focus on when making a Sorcadin are Strength, Constitution, and Charisma. You can avoid Dexterity, Intelligence, and Wisdom almost entirely. Here’s the ability score spread I recommend for the best Sorcadin build, but feel free to adjust it depending on what playstyle you want to favor:
- Strength – 14
- Dexterity – 8
- Constitution – 12
- Intelligence – 8
- Wisdom – 8
- Charisma – 14

Best Sorcadin subclasses and Metamagic in BG3
Most people agree that Draconic Bloodline is the best Sorcerer subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 and I generally agree. With it, you get more HP per level which is great for Sorcadin and you get to choose a damage type to focus on. I recommend Blue for Witch Bolt, Red for Burning Hands, or White for Amour of Agathys. At level six, you add your Charisma modifier to the damage of the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.
There is a strong case for Storm Sorcery as the first level grants you the ability to cast Fly on yourself as a bonus action after casting a spell. At level six, you get even more fun with Thunder and Lightning damage pools and resistances. Also, I love Wild Magic and think it’s the most fun subclass in the game. If you just want to have fun, go with Wild Magic.
Once you unlock Metamagic at Sorcerer level two, pick Extended Spell and Twinned Spell because Extended will make your support spells last longer and Twinned allows you to deal more damage. When you get the chance to take another Metamagic at Sorcerer level three, I recommend Quickened Spell so you can maximize your turns by making casting a spell a bonus action.
For Paladin, go with Oath of the Ancients. There’s no contest here because, to make a well-rounded Sorcadin, we need Healing Radiance which you get at level one with Oath of the Ancients. At level three, you get Nature’s Wrath which is great for keeping enemies restrained. You also get Turn the Faithless, which is just okay, and Speak with Animals and Ensnaring Strike which are both great. At level five, you get Misty Step and Moonbeam, two amazing spells. Level seven gives you Aura of Warding which is one of the best support spells in the game.
Best Sorcadin level split in BG3
The best Sorcadin level split is Paladin 7 and Sorcerer 5. The reason you want to do this is because you get Aura of Warding at Oath of the Ancients level seven which grants you and all nearby allies resistance to damage from spells which is permanent until you rest or get knocked unconscious. The Dragonic Bloodline level six bonus isn’t too impressive.
As is the case with most of this build, feel free to experiment and do what you want, but here’s what I think the best level-up order for the Sorcadin is:
- Level 1 – Paladin 1
- Level 2 – Paladin 2. Select Dueling for the Fighting Style.
- Level 3 – Paladin 3
- Level 4 – Sorcerer 1
- Level 5 – Paladin 4. Select Warcaster as your Feat, or check out the best Paladin Feats.
- Level 6 – Paladin 5
- Level 7 – Sorcerer 2
- Level 8 – Sorcerer 3
- Level 9 – Paladin 6
- Level 10 – Paladin 7
- Level 11 – Sorcerer 4. Ability Improvements, Magic Initiate: Warlock, or Savage Attacker are the Feats I recommend, but feel free to check out the best Feats in the game before making your decision.
- Level 12 – Sorcerer 5

Best Sorcadin armor, weapons, and items in BG3
The best armor you can get for your Sorcadin is any heavy armor. Paladin allows you to take heavy armor which is amazing, so always look for and equip the best heavy armor you find. Also, always use a shield. With heavy armor and a shield, you’ll have high AC the entire game which will make you a tough target to take down.
For weapons, look for and equip the best single-hand swords, clubs, and axes. Whatever you find that deals the highest damage and has some powerful buffs is the way to go. Check out the 10 best early armor and weapons to make your Sorcadin a beast.
