Dust 2 is an iconic map and was even around in the days of OG Counterstrike. Decent players always roughly know where you are, but you can use smoke grenades to change that. Here are the best Smoke Spots on Dust 2 in CS2.
Why you should use Smoke Grenades in Counterstrike 2
Before we dive into the Smoke Spots, let me quickly sell you on their value if you don’t use them often. While these throwables won’t instantly win a fight like a well-placed Flash or Stun Grenade, their utility can’t be understated.
You can use Smoke Grenades to shut down lanes and ferry your opponents into unfavorable situations. Smoke can render popular sniper locations useless and create cover out of thin air. You can Smoke offensively or defensively, and there’s never a scenario where they won’t provide value.
Smoke can be used to smother Molotov Cocktails but can also be pushed away with Frag Grenade blasts.
The best Smoke locations on Dust 2 in Counterstrike 2
I’ll show you some of the most crucial Smoke Spots on Dust 2 and explain why they are so valuable. Even if you’re not the one throwing the Smoke, you’ll understand why it’s there. I will also show you how to Smoke these areas without getting your head taken off.
A Cross
The crossroad just beneath A is called A Cross. If you throw a Smoke Grenade directly under A, you shut off several valuable sight lines. It’s not uncommon for players to attempt to ambush a team walking up the long road near A.
If you smoke A Cross, this can’t happen. Any player hoping to ambush from below must reposition or gamble and walk through the smoke. The latter is usually a terrible idea, although I’ve scored plenty of kills by throwing “Hail Mary” frags through the smoke.
If you’re coming from Long A, you can bounce a Smoke around the corner to land neatly in the center of the crossroads.
Xbox
If you’re going to learn just one Smoke Spot, this is arguably the most important one to memorize. The crossroads in the center of Dust 2 are simply called Xbox. This area is one of the most hotly contested on the map, and your opponents can gather a lot of information if you don’t respond.
A CT player usually peeks through the Double Doors by the crossroad to relay intel, but you can shut them down by Smoking the area.
You can do this quickly from the spawn on T side and throw a Smoke into Xbox without ever revealing yourself. If you do this maneuver correctly, you’ll force your opponent to stand in the open if they want to see.
If you stand behind the railings and aim just above the vent on the wall as I am, you’ll land the perfect Smoke if you jump and throw.
B Door
At the start of this guide, I mentioned that Smoke can force opponents to funnel into undesirable locations. This Smoke Spot is a perfect example of that.
If you smoke B Door, your opponent must take a risky peek through the gap in the wall nearby for intel or reposition entirely. You can also smoke the gap to shut the area down.
There are a few options for areas to throw the Smoke from. You can simply do it as you approach the location, but you can also try from T Start.
If you crouch where I am in the corner and copy my aim, you can jump throw the Smoke straight into the doorway. Your Smoke Grenade will bounce across the rooftops and land in the doorway with consistency. You can throw Smoke from a few positions near T spawn, but I find this the most reliable.
If you’re a Valorant player looking to take the plunge into CS2, you’ll be pleased to learn there’s a formula to convert your aim settings. You’ll still need to learn fundamentals the old-fashioned way, but at least your aim will remain on point.
