Dragon’s Dogma 2: Best shields and how to get them

There are a dozen shields in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but some are less great than others. Below you will find our picks of the top-notch shields, ranked from great to the absolute best.

5. Daughter of the Evening

The Daughter of the Evening Shield is one of the best in the game due to its high stats and the ability to claim it very early in a playthrough. Any player planning on sticking with the Fighter vocation should make claiming this shield the first thing on their bucket list. Its Strength stat of 80 and Knockdown Power of 290 are crazy good for the early game, and the fact that it can block Medusa’s gaze is a huge bonus.

Claiming the Daughter of the Evening shield isn’t very hard; you just need to get into Vernworth Castle. Once inside, you can get the shield from the Vernworth Castle Vault on the southeastern side of the castle.

  • Strength: 80
  • Magick: 0
  • Slash: 0
  • Strike: 100
  • Knockdown Power: 290
  • Element: None
  • Debilitation: None

4. Continental Shield

The Continental Shield is slightly heavier than the average shield in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but it’s still a great option if you can manage the extra load. If you are midway through the game and looking for an upgrade in Strength and Knockdown Power stats for your shield, maybe the Continental Shield can help.

There are numerous ways players can get the Continental Shield. The easiest and fastest way is to purchase it from Awaran’s Arms in Bakbattahl for 17800. Or you can complete the “Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge” side quest to make it available at Brokkr’s Smithy.

  • Strength: 95
  • Magick: 0
  • Slash: 0
  • Strike: 100
  • Knockdown Power: 248
  • Element: None
  • Debilitation: None

3. Dragon’s Faith

My favorite shield in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Dragon’s Faith. It’s not only great because of its stats but also because it’s the coolest-looking shield in the game. Perfect for late game and even strong enough for the Unmoored World, you may never want to switch to another after equipping this beast.

The Dragon’s Faith shield can be found in a chest in the Dragonsbreath Tower on the western side of the Battahl region. Take time to read our guide on how to enter Battahl without a pass so you can work toward claiming the Dragon’s Faith shield early in a playthrough.

  • Strength: 130
  • Magick: 0
  • Slash: 0
  • Strike: 100
  • Knockdown Power: 278
  • Element: None
  • Debilitation: None

2. Dread Aspis

The Dread Aspis shield is built for the endgame, making any Fighter who equips it built like a brick wall. With Strength and Knockdown Power stats of 156 and 298, respectively, you will be more than well off defending against some of the most aggressive foes in the game.

Those who want to claim the Dread Aspis must wait until the endgame (Unmoored World) of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Once this point is reached, Dread Aspis can be purchased from Rodrick’s, Grisha’s, Celeste’s, Awaran’s, and Brokkr’s Smithys.

  • Strength: 156
  • Magick: 0
  • Slash: 0

Dragon’s Aegis is the best shield in Dragon’s Dogma 2, boasting 186 Strength and 304 Knockdown Power. Perfecting blocks with the Dragon’s Aegis will protect against even the deadliest blows, and continuous blocking can lead to larger enemies falling to the ground.

Dragon’s Aegis can be purchased from the Bay Wayside Shrine for 40 Wyrmslife Crystals. Players can only acquire this material from Drakes and Lesser Dragons. Check out our guide on how to beat Drakes to get enough Wyrmslife Crystals for this powerful shield.
