Where to get Payday 3 mods
There are three main places to download and install Payday 3 mods. You can use payday3mods.com, Nexus Mods, or my personal favorite, Mod Workshop. I think Mod Workshop is the best place for Payday 3 mods because you’ll find the most mods here, they are high quality, and they are easy to get.
Try all three mod locations to see which one you like best. Once you’ve found some good mods, you’ll need to know how to install them.
How to install Payday 3 mods
If you are new to installing mods on Payday 3, then you’ll need to do a few things before you can start enjoying mods. If you are on Steam, go to Payday 3, Properties, and into the General tab. In the Launch Options box, type “-fileopenlog.” On Epic Games Store, right-click Payday 3, select Manage, and type “-fileopenlog” in the Launch Options box.
Either on Steam or Epic Games Store, open the Payday 3 game files. Once here, follow this path: Payday 3 > Content > Paks. Once here, right-click an open space and create a new folder titled “~mods.”
Now, download any mods you want. When they are downloaded, drag the “.pak” file into your new mods folder.
I watched a quick video tutorial showing how to install mods in Payday 3, and I recommend you do the same to get yourself on the right track.
Best Payday 3 mods, ranked
Okay, you know where to find Payday 3 mods and how to install and use them. Now, we can get to the best mods in Payday 3 so far.
A lot of Payday 3 mods you’ll find are silly and just good fun, like the Bocchi the Rock! start screen mod that I found, but some are genuinely good to have. There will always be silly mods to install, but the best mods in this list focus on things that are helpful.
Here’s a quick list of the best Payday 3 mods I’ve found so far. All of them are on Mod Workshop.
- Simple Armor + Health HUD
- Damage Pop-Up HUD
- Colored Buffs
- Payday 3 Challenge Viewer
- PD2 Assault Indicator UI
The first Payday 3 mod I recommend you get is the Simple Armor + Health HUD mod. This mod shows you enemy health and armor. Like it says in the name, this mod is “simple,” but it is extremely nice to have. Knowing each enemy’s health and armor can help you in fights (or to avoid fights).
If you want to make Payday 3 even more like an RPG, you can get the Damage Pop-Up HUD mod. With this mod, you’ll be able to see how much damage you deal to enemies in the form of floating numbers. This can be very helpful if you want to know how much damage you’re dealing.
Colored Buffs is another simple mod that just makes sense. With this, EDGE is now red, GRIT is now blue, and RUSH is now yellow. This will help you make builds more easily since you can just remember what color does what effect instead of having to memorize what GRIT does.
The Payday 3 Challenge Viewer is a great mod that makes keeping track of your Challenges and completing them much easier. With this mod, you can filter your Challenges, search for specific keywords, and keep better track of what you’re doing.
The last one I’ll put on this list is the PD2 Assault Indicator UI. The top Reddit posts on the Payday 3 subreddit are funny complaints about how the police assault indicator got nerfed. To relive the glory days, you can equip the PD2 Assault Indicator UI. Go nuts.
