Best outfits in Starfield

Clothes maketh an explorer.

In Starfield, you run all over the galaxy, often dressed in your fancy spacesuit. You have a pack and helmet, too, but none of those items really make the right fashion statement. Fortunately, you’ll visit some planets and buildings where you can breathe without a helmet, and survive the elements without looking like you’re ready to take the first step on the moon. At such times, there’s a whole range of outfits you might choose to wear. Here is our guide listing the best outfits in Starfield.

The best outfits in Starfield depend on your current needs

Whether you’re wearing a spacesuit or not, you’ll have an outfit on beneath it. The best outfits available apply positive passive effects. If you’re like me, you don’t see them all that often because you don’t bother removing them every time you make brief visits to places with an O2 atmosphere and signs of life. I’ve gone hours at a time without changing out of my current garb when an adjustment to my attire would have worked in my favor. Below are my favorite outfits for a variety of common scenarios.

Starfield Fitted Business Suit

Fitted Business Suit

When you need to persuade someone, which happens often during missions, you should try to look the part. The Fitted Business Suit adds 10% Persuasion chance. It’s an excellent option when paired with an alcoholic beverage to really boost your skills. Most other outfits in the category offer only a 5% increase. You receive it while completing the Sowing Discord faction mission for Ryujin Industries.

Blue UC Leather Jumpsuit

Although this outfit isn’t super exciting to look at, it does offer +5 Health and O2, a nice dual effect. I tend to find myself a bit light on the O2 side when I need to run long distances, so every little bit helps (especially if you haven’t worked on your Fitness skill).

Space Trucker Flannel

If you play the game like I do, you often find yourself running around with more junk than you can carry without becoming encumbered. Mastering and leveling up the Weight Lifting skill helps a lot, of course. You can also find the Incendiary Mantis Spacesuit that boosts your resource-carrying capacity, even before you add the Pocketed mod. Then, the Space Trucker Flannel comes along and adds +5 Carry Capacity. It’s not a lot, but it’s something. Some other outfits bestow the same effect, but they’ll do less to make you look like Ron Swanson, and that’s a shame.

Starfield Operative Suit

Operative Suit

There are a whole lot of people who like to sneak around the galaxy. For them, the Operative Suit is perfect. You’ll become 25% harder to detect while you wear it, which proves useful when tackling missions related to multiple factions. Paired with the Stealth skill, it could allow you to change how you approach combat. Me, I typically go in with guns blazing. That sometimes leads to regrettable outcomes.

Swimsuit

I’ve spent the last few hours of gameplay dressed in a swimsuit, not that anyone had reason to notice. Its benefit is that actions use -5% O2, which can let you remain busy for a lot longer if you pair it with the Fitness skill. Also, it allows you to show off your fine physique. One downside is that you can’t buy it anywhere. You’ll have to steal it!

Starfield Aito Suzuki

They’re not outfits, strictly speaking, but you can buy some apparel accessories from Aito Suzuki in the building that houses Ryujin Industries, within Neo Core. He sells a few items with noteworthy effects:

  • Neuroboost Mark III – +15% intimidation chance
  • Neurocom Mark III – +15% Diplomacy chance
  • Neurotac Mark III – +15% Instigation chance

Besides the best outfits listed above, you’ll find numerous other bits of equipment spread around the galaxy. I like to hold onto one outfit with each main perk type, so that little added benefit is available when I need it, even though I can only wear one outfit at a time. Those outfits aren’t terribly heavy, so I figure they’re worth their weight in fabric.
