3. Spellblade

Instead of casting spells from afar, the Spellblade Mastery has you deal close-range magic attacks with your sharp weapons. I wouldn’t call it the best, simply because the skills just aren’t as powerful as the other two Masteries.

Your one skill Shatter Strike can deal with a sweeping melee attack which also deals cold damage. Then there’s Flame Reave, cleaving through enemies in front of you with fire damage. You can even use Enchant Weapon to enhance your weapon with elemental powers. All of this just doesn’t compare to some of the devastating attacks from the other Masteries.

2. Sorcerer

As a master of long-distanced spellcasting, the Sorcerer Mastery is a decent pick that can keep you safe from enemy fire, but strong enough to attack from a distance. With this Mastery, you gain access to Meteor, which is a catastrophic spell that calls upon a damaging meteor from the sky.

You also get other powerful spells like Ice Barrage, which shoots shards of ice for a short period, and Static Orb, which can pull enemies into itself as it strikes with lightning damage. Another spell that pulls enemies into a specific location is Black Hole, which can deal cold damage at the same time. Although it’s not the best, Sorcerer is still a great choice.

1. Runemaster

Runemaster has to be the best of all the Mage Masteries. This Mastery allows you to channel three Runes in a certain order with Runic Invocation to get a devastating and unique result mid-battle. Each combination gives you a different result, leaving you with a plethora of incredible magic attacks.

With both offensive and defensive magic, you can create up to 40 Runic Invocations. Skills like Flame Rush which launches you into enemies as a ball of fire, or Runebolt which strikes a triple combo of projectiles of fire, lighting, and cold damage, the Runemaster is the top Mage Mastery to play with.
