Best Halsin Ability Scores in BG3

When it comes to Druids, what matters most is your Wisdom level. This is your spellcasting modifier. But once you’re in Wild Shape, your stats change to whatever beast form you take. Out of Wild Shape, you also want a high Constitution (health) and Dexterity (AC). Sure, Strength can be helpful for melee weapon attacks, but Halsin won’t be doing much of that. Nor will he require a high Charisma or Intelligence score.

AbilityScore
Strength10
Dexterity14
Constitution15 (+1)
Intelligence8
Wisdom17 (+2)
Charisma10

Best subclass for Halsin in BG3

There are three incredible subclasses for Druids in BG3, but the best for Halsin has got to be Circle of the Moon. This is by far the best Druid subclass in general, giving you the ability to Wild Shape as a Bonus Action and gain access to exclusive creatures. This subclass also allows you to expend spell slots to regain HP while in Wild Shape.

Halsin Druid leveling guide in BG3

  • Level 2
    • Choose Circle of the Moon subclass
      • Lunar Mend: Expend spell slots to regain Wild Shape HP.
      • Combat Wild Shape: Can Wild Shape as a Bonus Action.
      • Wild Shape: Bear.
    • Wild Shape forms: Badger, Cat, Spider, Wolf.
  • Level 4
    • Choose feat: Ability Score Improvement
      • +2 WIS
    • Subclass Wild Shape: Dire Raven.
    • Wild Shape form: Deep Rothe.
  • Level 5
    • Wild Strike: Can make additional attack in Wild Shape.
  • Level 6
    • Primal Strike (subclass): Attacks count as magical while in beast form.
    • Wild Shape forms: Panther, Owlbear.
  • Level 8
    • Subclass Wild Shape: Sabre-Toothed Tiger.
    • Choose feat: War Caster
      • Gain Advantage on Concentration checks for maintaining spells. Also allows you to cast Shocking Grasp as a Reaction to an Opportunity Attack.
  • Level 10
    • Subclass Wild Shapes: Air/Earth/Water/Fire Myrmidon.
    • Wild Shape form: Dilophosaurus.
    • Improved Wild Strike: Can make two additional attacks in Wild Shape.
  • Level 12
    • Choose feat: Durable
      • CON increases by one, and you regain all HP upon a Short Rest.

The best feats you can get for Halsin are War Caster and Durable. War Caster is great since many Druid spells require Concentration. Durable helps Halsin stay alive and heal more easily during Short Rests. As you can see with the chosen subclass, there are an incredible amount of Wild Shapes available to choose from.

Best spells for Halsin in BG3

When not in Wild Shape, a Druid excels at casting both harmful and healing spells. You can also know a ton of spells at once, but must prepare a certain amount. Here are some of my favorite spells to prepare as someone who played a Druid in my BG3 playthrough:

  • Cantrips
    • Guidance
    • Shillelagh
    • Thorn Whip
  • Level 1
    • Cure Wounds
    • Ice Knife
    • Speak with Animals
  • Level 2
    • Flame Blade
    • Pass without Trace
  • Level 3
    • Call Lightning
    • Daylight
  • Level 4
    • Blight
    • Ice Storm
  • Level 5
    • Mass Cure Wounds
    • Insect Plague
  • Level 6
    • Heal
    • Heroes’ Feast
    • Sunbeam

If you don’t have Shadowheart, Halsin can give you Guidance on any ability check. Shillelagh is good for melee combat, as it makes your staff or club deal damage based on your WIS modifier. Thorn Whip can be quite useful for pulling enemies towards you.

Cure Wounds is your typical healing spell, while Ice Knife can both damage enemies and freeze the ground, causing them to slip and fall. Pass without Trace is perfect for helping you pass those Stealth checks. Call Lightning deals an incredible amount of Lightning damage while also allowing you to strike it again without expending another spell slot.

Daylight may sound useless, but it can dispel all darkness around it and can hurt enemies weak to sunlight. Blight is a deadly spell dealing 8d8 Necrotic damage, which Ice Storm inflicts a ton of Cold damage in a large AoE.

Make sure to have Mass Cure Wounds prepared for those tough fights, but don’t forget about the AoE damage spell Insect Plague. Level 6 spells include the incredible Heal (heals 70 HP), Heroes’ Feast (Gives a plethora of buffs to all party members), and Sunbeam (blinds and deals a lot of Radiant damage).

Best weapons and armor for Halsin in BG3

When it comes to weapons, there are a few incredible ones for when you just want to deal some melee hits. It’s best to use Staffs and Clubs, since you can cast Shillelagh on them for that WIS modifier damage. Here are some great choices:

  • Markoheshkir: +1 bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls, Arcane Battery (toggleable passive allowing you to not expend a spell slot), and Kereska’s Favor spell (imbue yourself with an element).
  • Devotee’s Mace: Trigger a healing aura for you and your allies.
  • Staff of Spellpower: +1 bonus to spell save DC and spell attack rolls, and Arcane Battery (toggleable passive allowing you to not expend a spell slot).
  • Incandescent Staff: Gives you Fire Bolt and Fireball spells, +1 to Ranged spell attacks, and gives you Fire resistance.

For armor, there are some amazing choices available during the later part of Baldur’s Gate 3. Some of these will even upgrade Halsin’s Druid abilities. Here’s what you should look out for:

  • Armor of Moonbasking (AC 11 + DEX): Gain 22 temp HP in Wild Shape, gain +2 AC bonus, and Advantage on saving throws against spells.
  • Elegant Studded Leather (AC 14 + DEX): Gain +2 Initiative bonus, Advantage on Stealth checks, and Shield spell.
  • Flame Enamelled Armor (AC 16 + DEX): Gain +1 Initiative bonus, Fire resistance, +2 bonus to saving throws, and Fire Shield Warm spell.
  • Adamantine Scale Mail: Incoming damage reduced by one, melee attacker that hits you is sent Reeling for two turns, and you’re immune to Critical Hits.
