Best Fortnite OG weapons, ranked by usefulness

The Scar is back, baby!

Fortnite OG offers players the special opportunity to experience the game as it was in 2018. There are plenty of gamers who didn’t play during Fortnite BR’s inception, and now they get to try the old-school arsenal. Here are the best Fortnite OG weapons, ranked by usefulness.

The top 10 best weapons in OG Fortnite

The Fortnite OG Season is unique, as the available weapons will rapidly change over the coming weeks. Thanks to the official Blog Post, we already know what’s coming, but if you’re new to the OG weapon lineup, here’s the scoop:

10. Double Barrel Shotgun

The Double Barrel Shotgun isn’t due in Fortnite OG until November 9, but it’s something to prepare for. This weapon excels at extremely close range and unleashes a barrage of pellets that can kill in a couple of hits.

The potential DPS of the Double Barrel Shotgun is sky-high, although landing shots on a moving target isn’t easy. The Double Barrel Shotgun is a skill weapon that must be respected in close-range combat.

The exotic version of this weapon was simply called “The Dub.” At the time of writing, we don’t know if this variant is coming back, but the name speaks volumes.

9. Damage Trap

OG players will know this weapon as the Spike Trap, and it’s glorious! While not as versatile as a gun, You can plant Damage Traps on the floor, walls, and even the ceiling. If an opponent walks close by, the spikes launch a short distance and deal a ton of damage.

Herding your opponents into a well-placed trap is one of the most satisfying feelings in a battle royale. Players will quickly wise up to these prickly tiles of death, but until then, bask in their rage.

8. Light Machine Gun

As you may expect, the Light Machine Gun kicks like a mule but can dish out a terrifying amount of damage. I’ve had a lot of success with this weapon, firing in bursts or letting rip at close range.

The Light Machine Gun also boasts a hefty magazine size, which takes a while to deplete. While not the most elegant weapon, it’s versatile and easy to use.

7. Grappler

Any player worth their salt will tell you how vital movement tech is in Fortnite, and this is doubly true in Zero Build. The Grappler is an excellent tool for repositioning, and it can be used to scale cliffs and leap over opponents.

Whether you use it in combat or to escape the storm, the Grappler is well worth a slot in your inventory. There are also trolling opportunities to be had with your friends.

6. Rift-To-Go

Rift-To-Go is another powerful piece of movement tech in Fortnite OG, and although it’s “single use,” there’s no denying its strength. The Rift-To-Go warps you into the sky, allowing you to immediately reset any battle.

The ability to just vanish and reposition is as broken as it sounds. It doesn’t activate immediately, but it’s fast enough to escape even the toughest situations.

5. Stink Bomb

Don’t you love those situations when you know someone is lurking nearby, but you don’t know exactly where? The Stink Bomb is the perfect tool for encounters like this, encasing large areas in a damaging cloud.

The Stink Bomb does a surprising amount of damage, and while your opponent is flailing about, trying to escape, you can deal the killing blow with your guns. These throwables are a powerful anti-camper tool, and I’m all for it.

4. Boogie Bomb

Are you fighting an opponent who’s much better than you? Not to worry, chuck a Boogie Bomb at them to immediately flip the odds in your favor.

The Boogie Bomb has always felt a little inconsistent, but a hit will force your opponent to dance with no way to shoot back. In this state, it doesn’t matter how good your foe is. Finish them off while they have no way to retaliate and dance yourself to show how it’s done.

3. Silenced Assault Rifle

I don’t remember this weapon feeling as good as it does in Fortnite OG. I scored my first Victory Royale of the season with a blue rarity Silenced Assault Rifle, and it’s superb.

You will need to fire in bursts to get the most out of this Assault Rifle, but you can deal a ton of damage with this weapon while staying accurate. Decent automatic weapons are extremely versatile, and this one packs a mighty punch.

2. Pump Shotgun

I could tell horror stories about the Pump Shotgun, and OG players shudder at the mere mention of “Double Pumping.”

The Pump Shotgun is an absolute powerhouse in close-range engagements. Well-placed shots can delete players in the blink of an eye, and it’s absolutely worth the inventory slot. Many shotguns are frighteningly powerful in Fortnite, and the Pump is up there with the best.

1. Assault Rifle

The Assault Rifle offers everything you could want in a deadly Fortnite weapon. It hits like a freight train and is easy to control. The ease of use makes the gun a strong contender in mid-range engagements, and it can easily dunk on long-range targets if needed.

The purple rarity version looks quite different and is an exceptional weapon to take into the late game. It’s deadly accurate, has minimal bloom, and can erase opponents when you get a feel for it.

Those are our picks for the best guns in Fortnite OG. Niche picks like the Hand Cannon have their uses, but the weapons in this list will serve you well, no matter your skill level.
