Best Fighter build in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Skills, Augments, and gear

Ready to fight?

Fighter was my starting Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and it’s one of my favorite Pawn Vocations. Whether you’re building an amazing Arisen or Pawn Fighter, here is the best Fighter build in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Best Fighter Weapon Skills and Core Skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Since Fighter is one of the best starting Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and it stays fun and gets better as you level up, it’s only natural for you to want to know how to make the best Fighter build. Let’s start with the best Weapon Skills and Core Skills.

Best Fighter Weapon Skills

  • Counter Slash
  • Gouging Skewer
  • Launchboard or Hindsight Slash
  • Impeccable Guard

All Vocations only get access to four Weapon Skills and I think the best Fighter Weapon Skills are Counter Slash, Gouging Skewer, Impeccable Guard, and Launchboard for Pawns or Hindsight Slash for Arisen.

You can counter enemy attacks with Counter Slash, deal massive damage to bosses with Gouging Skewer, get out of crowded situations with Impeccable Guard, and do more retaliation damage with Hindsight Slash. Launchboard is a must for your Pawn to make exploration much more fun — it’s a key reason why Fighter is one of the best Pawn Vocations.

Best Fighter Core Skills

  • True Deflect
  • Enchanted Counter
  • Steeled Foundation

There are no limits to Core Skills, but if you’re looking to save DCP, then get True Deflect and Enchanted Counter as those are the best. Steeled Foundation is very fun for your Arisen but isn’t worth it for your Pawn.

Best Fighter Augments in Dragon’s Dogma 2

  1. Mettle
  2. Diligence
  3. Provocation
  4. Dominion
  5. Thew

The cool thing about Augments in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is they aren’t tied to Vocations. This means that even if you don’t stick to Fighter, you can permanently unlock their five Augments and apply them to any Vocations and vice versa for applying other Vocations’ Augments to your final Fighter build.

I recommend everybody put a few points into Fighter just to get Mettle which raises your overall defense. Diligence is the next best Fighter Augment since it helps you recover fast when downed or crawling, but it’s the last Augment you get as Fighter. Provocation, Thew, and Dominion are mainly only good on Fighter and Warrior, once you unlock Warrior, that is.

For the most part, weapons and armor you can find hidden as rewards in the open world are the same weapons and armor you can buy at shops in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The only benefits to finding good weapons and armor in the open world are it saves you Gold and allows you to acquire good gear early. That said, here is the best early and mid-game Fighter gear:

Early game gear

  • Cutlass Sword
  • Feather-Light Pelta Shield
  • Marcher’s Helm
  • Foot Soldier Armor
  • Bush Raiders Pants
  • Vermundian Cloak

Mid-game gear

  • Silver Rapier Sword
  • Shield of Vernworth
  • Decapitator Helm
  • Grand Cuirass Armor
  • Raptor Claws Pants
  • General’s Mantle
