Best cozy games like Fae Farm to warm up to by the fireplace this winter

Baby, it's cold outside.

Nothing is better than lighting a fireplace, sitting on the couch with a cozy blanket, and playing some video games. In the spirit of the holidays, we have a list of the best cozy games like Fae Farm to play this winter.

While some of the games on this list may not be considered cozy, they all allow you to play in a winter snowy setting, which makes them the best for this season. Let’s get right into it, shall we?

10 best cozy games like Fae Farm to play this winter

The Red Lantern

The Red Lantern

In The Red Lantern, you play as a Musher looking to find her way home alongside her team of five sled dogs. It’s a narrative exploration choice-based adventure game. Yes, you can pet the dog — all five of them.

Set in Alaska, while the sun may be out, the world around you is freezing cold. I love the visuals depicting the beautiful Alaskan wilderness. Care for your dogs, and try to survive in the wild. The cozy part is that you can relax in Zen Mode after unlocking the cabin, which is perfect for chilling out this winter.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Nothing feels like winter like Animal Crossing in its respective season does. In this Nintendo game from its long-running franchise, you live on an island with animal neighbors. Design your island, go fishing, catch bugs, and so much more.

The best part about ACNH is the fact that it runs on a real-time clock, meaning you can celebrate the holidays and embrace the wintertime in your town as well. Snow will fall, you can make snowmen, and you’ll even celebrate Toy Day. I just love walking around my town during a snowy day — the vibes are immaculate.

Best Cozy Games Winter Roki

Röki

In this adorable adventure puzzle game, you’ll explore a snowcapped Scandinavian wilderness as Tove, uncovering an uncharted world of legends and monsters. There are a plethora of puzzles to solve and monsters to befriend in Röki — some of them, at least.

I really love the storybook art style, the color palette, and the general art direction of Röki. Since it’s set in a snowy wilderness, I highly recommend you check it out for those winter feelings.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Skyrim can’t be a cozy game,” right? Well, I say you’re wrong. Although you’ll come across scary enemies from time to time, Skyrim in its blizzard-ridden areas gives me such a nostalgic and warm feeling that no other game can.

This is the fifth installment in Bethesda’s long-running series, set in a fantasy world with incredible quests, an open world to get lost in, and plenty of guilds to join. Just take a walk around the snowy areas and focus on the nature around you as the music swells in your ears. Skyrim is 100% a cozy winter game.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley

Here’s another big-hit game that you probably already know about. Stardew Valley is a farming and life simulator that runs through the four seasons. If you already have a playthrough, or want to start a new one, it’s the perfect time!

Playing through the winter season in Stardew Valley as you’re living through it in real life sounds nice, doesn’t it? Keep plants growing in your greenhouse, feed your animals, and explore what the town looks like when it’s covered in snow.

Fae Farm

Fae Farm

I couldn’t leave this game out, since I mentioned it earlier. Fae Farm is also a farming sim, but this one has magic. It’s got RPG mechanics, crafting, and decorating. Not only that, but it’s available in co-op with up to four players!

You’ll explore the realms of Azoria, traversing the island using your spells and skills. Just like Stardew Valley, Fae Farm has an in-game calendar that goes through the four seasons. It’ll be delightful to play this adorable game during the winter season.

I Am Setsuna

I am Setsuna

Although this one’s also an RPG, it’s a Square Enix-published JRPG with turn-based combat. I am Setsuna is inspired by the classic Chrono Trigger and has you play through the story of Setsuna, a young woman who will do anything to save the people of her land.

As you can see from the image above, it takes place in a snow-ridden land — practically the entire game does. And it’s heavenly gorgeous, the art style looks like watercolor paintings. If you’re a fan of turn-based combat, you’ll really enjoy this pick.

Best Cozy Games Winter Lake

Lake – Season’s Greetings

If you’ve heard of Lake, the cozy walking simulator that has you play as a mail deliverer and driver, there’s a DLC releasing on November 15 called Season’s Greetings. This is perfect for the holiday season, as this prequel DLC is set during Christmas of 1985.

You’ll be Meredith’s dad who’s taking on deliveries for Providence Oaks and its community. There are dozens of stories to unfold as you can take your time driving around the town and chatting with the locals. Nothing gets cozier than this during the winter.

Best Cozy Games Winter The Long Dark

The Long Dark

In this exploration survival open-world game, you’ll be challenging yourself against the dangers of the snowy wilderness. The Long Dark may not sound cozy, but if you’re more of a lone wolf, you may enjoy playing this during the winter.

Not only is there the Survival Edition, which is a free-form non-narrative survival sandbox, you can play Wintermute, which is a story mode that includes a few different episodes. These episodes don’t take too long, they’re approximately 30 minutes each.

Best Cozy Games Winter Grove

Cozy Grove

This is one of many cozy winter games on this list that’s inspired by Animal Crossing. Cozy Grove has you camping on a haunted island. You’re a Spirit Scout who’ll discover animals and spirits alike. It’s extremely relaxing, as it runs on a real-life clock.

So when it’s winter where you live, it’ll be winter in Cozy Grove! Have fun crafting decorations, fishing, and helping your fellow spirits in need. The game is designed for you to pop in for about an hour at a time with new daily quests and things to accomplish.
