Abilities in Madden NFL 25 Superstar explained
There are three different types of abilities in Superstar mode for Madden NFL 25. Core Abilities are equipped to your Superstar and specifically increase your player’s performance, Showdown Abilities are used during Showdown mode against other players, and Teammate Abilities affect specific positions on your team.
Some Core and Teammate abilities have three tiers associated with them, which can be upgraded by leveling up certain stats. Each tier has a similar effect, but increases the effectiveness and makes the ability more valuable to your player or team.
Best Core Abilities
The abilities available to you change depending on which position your athlete is playing. To cater to all positions, we have selected the absolute best core ability for each so you understand which one to definitely have equipped. These core abilities are considered the top choice due to the amount of difference they can make on the field, leading to more XP, wins, and higher grades in games.
Core Ability | Position | Bronze | Silver | Gold |
---|---|---|---|---|

Immovable Object (QB)
Immovable object is without a doubt the best Core Ability for a quarterback in Madden 25. Sacks can be a game-changer to your grade on the field, leading to less XP and loss of yards. Being able to avoid the first sack attempt not only gives you a second chance to pass to a receiver but also warns you that the line is collapsing, leaving room to throw the ball away.
Shake It Off (HB)
Your halfback is only as good as his speed and ability to break tackles. Equipping the Shake It Off ability makes your Halback much harder to bring down, enabling him to break through hit sticks, cut sticks, and most importantly, strip tackles. Expect to get more yards and less fumbles with Shake It Off.
Release Technician (WR)
As for a wide receiver, the best core ability is Release Technician. Having your Superstar up against a top-notch defender will usually result in the defender winning in press interactions, preventing you from getting downfield and getting open during your route. Use Release Technician to fix this issue, helping you in press interactions and getting open for a pass.
Tackle Elite (LB)
When playing as a linebacker, your main job is to get to the ball and make a tackle as quickly as possible. All great linebackers can force fumblers through sheer force tackling and stripping. The Tackle Elite core ability makes it so your Superstar doesn’t allow broken tackles, while also increasing the chance of forcing a fumble.
Press Elite (CB)
As a cornerback, keeping up with a fast receiver for the entire duration of the game can be draining. Luckily, the Press Elite core ability helps with this. With each press win against the receiver, that specific receiver will become more fatigued. In other words, the more press wins you have, the easier that receiver becomes to cover.
Best Showdown abilities
Showdown is a mode in Superstar where you play as your avatar in a 3v3 setting against other players. This means that you’ll be playing different positions, outside of the standard position for your player. The game balances this by having specific stats for Showdown mode. Here are the best Showdown abilities to equip for the best chance at winning.
- Short in Elite: Receivers with this ability catch more consistently while catching passes less than 10 yards from the LoS, inside the numbers.
- Perfection: At the start of a drive, defenders will have a challenging time intercepting bullet passes.
The two Showdown abilities mentioned pair perfectly with each other. You’ll find that short passes are the way to go in Showdown mode, and having Short in Elite and Perfection equipped will significantly increase your chances of completing short bullet passes.
Best Teammate Abilities
Teammate Abilities are a great way to affect players’ performance, outside of your Superstar. Having your teammates perform better results in your Superstar having a better game, leading to more wins, XP, and higher grades. Here are the teammate abilities in Madden NFL 25.
