Yes, you can claim Covent Garden!

You’re spoilt for things to do in Fallout London. If you’re the creative type, let me show you all the Settlement locations and the best base sites in Fallout London.

How to build bases in Fallout London

Base building is pretty clunky in Fallout London, but let me teach you the basics. First, you must secure a Settlement to build on, and you can find every eligible location on the list below.

Most Settlements can be readied for building by defeating nearby enemies. Once the area is clear, you must track down the Workshop.

Workshop Marker

The Workshop is a red machine, and it has a nav point on your compass resembling three houses (pictured above).

When you interact with the machine for the first time, you’ll be given a tutorial explaining the base-building mechanic.

You can place and delete structures while in Workshop Mode and the edges of the area you can modify are highlighted in bright green.

You can move freely around the Settlement in Workshop Mode as if walking normally. Cycle through your POVs and Workshop camera with the Scroll Wheel on your Mouse (Mouse Button 3). I’ve bound the function to another button on my Mouse for comfort, but the default should be fine.

Each Structure you build has a material cost, but you can also “Scrap” items you don’t want for most of those ingredients. The build menu feels a little unintuitive at first as you must use the arrow keys for navigation, but you’ll get the hang of it.

As a side note, I’ve read multiple posts suggesting that Companions are bugged. Make sure you have a Settlement before taking on a second Companion. In Fallout London, Companions return to a Settlement when they aren’t in your party. There’s a chance they’ll disappear if they have nowhere to call home.

Speaking of Companions, there are seven potential candidates if you know where to look.

All settlement locations in Fallout London

There are six Settlements players can inhabit in Fallout London. Unfortunately, many players report that Settlements are bugged and broken at the time of writing. I’ve seen complaints about everything from hard crashes to clipping into scenery, so tinker with base building at your own risk.

Hopefully, these issues will be patched out (bases were dodgy in Fallout 4, too). Here are the locations, and any prerequisites:

Biggin Hill Airport

Let’s kick the list off with a quest-locked location. The Biggin Hill Airport Settlement to the southeast can be claimed, but you must first speak to an NPC called Gordo who’s roaming the area.

Gordo has an entire questline cooked up for you. These tasks are no joke either. The kill missions are straightforward, but you must solve a puzzle in the Bromley Pindar Station.

Interact with several switches in a specific order to complete the task. If you’re struggling with the puzzle, here’s the solution:

  • C1
  • C3
  • Power Box.
  • C7
  • C5
  • C6
  • C4
  • C2
  • Maintenance Valve.

Return to Gordo after the quests, wait two days in-game, and Biggin Hill Airport is yours.

Covent Garden

As a Londoner myself, it’s a real treat to see the iconic Covent Garden so faithfully recreated in Fallout. The place is crawling with heavily armed Bandits and Hooligans, but you can claim the place for yourself once you’ve cleared the area.

Covent Garden is unique as it seems to be its own contained instance, complete with a door. It’s no mean feat defeating all the tough enemies, but the reward is absolutely worth it.

Lambeth Walk

Lambeth Walk is an easily defendable location and is pretty easy to unlock as a Settlement. There aren’t any quests involved; just clear the area of enemies and Lambeth Walk is yours.

The Lambeth Walk Settlement also has a Cooking Station for your culinary needs.

London Bridge

You can find the London Bridge Settlement just west of Tower Bridge.

The London Bridge Settlement is unusual as you must complete a quest to unlock it. You’ll meet an NPC on the bridge called Beefy, who’s collecting Tolls. Pass a skill check with him (8 Intellect and 5 Charisma) to start the quest which unlocks the Settlement. You can also pass the skill check with a flat 8 Charisma.

The quest is pretty straightforward. You must clear out three groups of enemies within proximity of London Bridge. Return to Beefy when you’re done to claim your prize.

Wandsworth Tennis Museum

This Settlement is tucked away in the southwest corner of the map by Wimbledon Lake. I recommend this location for players who want a secluded area away from the city.

The only problem with the Tennis Museum is it’s crawling with Ghouls. You must clear the area of horrors before you claim it, so have fun with that! I recommend taking the settlement during the day for added visibility.

Vauxhall Grove

The Vauxhall Grove Construction Site is a superb Settlement as it’s wide, flat, and spacious. If you’re looking for a blank canvas to build on, Vauxhall Grove is the place for you.

Clear the area of enemy occupation, and the Construction Site is yours. There are also mountains of scrap and materials to loot, even if you don’t plan on sticking around.

Settlements are far easier to stumble upon by accident than Beer Coasters, which offer permanent stat boosts.

Best base locations in Fallout London

I already sung Covent Garden’s praises, but it’s hands down my favorite Settlement. The place is huge, and the premade structures are less of a pain than in the other locations. Covent Garden has it all, and it’s a treat to call such a well-known location home in Fallout London.

If you have no love for Covent Garden, I recommend Vauxhall Grove. The Settlement offers a ton of space for builders far more creative than me to show off.

Just make sure to save your game regularly, so you don’t lose your hard work to file corruption and crashes. I’ve read multiple reports of dodgy Auto Saves around Settlements, so Manual saving is a good idea too. Those errors are far more dangerous than any enemy who may attack your territory.

Fallout London is a truly special mod, but it’s overrun with bugs, glitches, and technical problems. Fortunately, there are easy fixes for most issues although some require external mods.
