If you’ve decided to become a Wildheart Barbarian in Baldur’s Gate 3, or made Karlach one, you’ll probably want to know about the best Animal Aspects, which we’ve ranked in a list below.
With 10 unique options available, and only being able to choose one, it’s tough to know what’s best for you build. We can help you decide through this list.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Wildheart Barbarian Animal Aspects, ranked
At level 6 of the Barbarian class and Wildheart subclass in BG3, you must decide on an Aspect of the Beast. These Animal Aspects will all offer you different buffs, but which is the best option? Here’s a ranked tier list of the best Animal Aspects for your Wildheart Barbarian in Baldur’s Gate 3.
S-tier Animal Aspects
- Wolverine: You inflict Maim condition (movement speed reduced to zero, and gains Disadvantage on DEX saving throws) on targets you attack with the Bleeding or Poisoned conditions.
- Eagle: Gain Advantage on Perception checks, and can see in the dark up to 12m.
- Stallion: Dashing grants you temporary HP equal to twice your Barbarian level.
- Tiger: Add additional STR modifier to attack rolls against Bleeding or Poisoned targets. Also gain Proficiency in Survival.
Out of all of the Animal Aspects, these are the top four you should consider. These seem to give you the most benefit. Wolverine grants a pretty nasty condition to Bleeding and Poisoned targets, both of which are quite common in combat.
The Eagle Aspect gives you a better chance at succeeding Perception checks and grants you a lot more vision in the dark. I honestly think the Stallion is the best choice for survivability, as it gives you tons of temporary HP by the time you’re at max level (24 temp HP at level 12).
Finally, I’d also consider choosing the Tiger Aspect, as it can help you hit targets who are Bleeding or Poisoned. You also gain a nice skill Proficiency.

A-tier Animal Aspects
- Wolf: You and nearby allies can add your DEX modifier to Stealth checks.
- Honey Badger: Gain a 50% chance to start Raging without spending a Rage Charge if you’re Poisoned, Frightened, or Charmed at the start of your turn.
- Bear: Carrying capacity is doubled, and you gain Advantage on Strength checks.
From this list of A-tier Animal Aspects, I think that the Honey Badger is the best pick. You have a pretty high chance of keeping your Rage up or gaining it back from three common conditions. The only problem is that you’ll often already keep up your Rage if you attack someone each turn.
Otherwise, the Wolf Aspect certainly helps with your party’s Stealth checks, but I don’t think it’s a worthwhile Aspect compared to the S-tier picks. Finally, the Bear Aspect is great if you’re the party’s pack mule, and it’s nice to get that Strength check Advantage.
B-tier Animal Aspects
- Crocodile: Movement speed increases by 3m while on water-based surfaces. Gain Advantage on saving throws against being knocked prone while on slippery surfaces.
- Elk: Give you and nearby allies 1.5m of bonus movement speed.
- Chimpanzee: Gain fall damage Resistance, and can Blind targets if you throw Camp Supplies.
These are the Animal Aspects that I’d avoid altogether. First off, the Crocodile Aspect is very situational, unless you find yourself slipping often. The Elk just doesn’t grant enough bonus movement speed to be worth the choice here.
Finally, I just don’t find the Chimpanzee an appealing choice. I don’t want to throw Camp Supplies around for my turn, nor do I get fall damage enough, especially with spells like Feather Fall existing.
