There are tons of different and unique enemies that will present themselves as obstacles to you in Baldur’s Gate 3. From horrific monsters who want nothing more than to tear you limb from limb, to wizened old sorcerers like Lorroakan who will attempt to sway you to their way of thinking. Depending on how you are playing the game – for example, if you’re roleplaying a certain character type — your interactions with these foes will change wildly. In one part of the game, while you are traveling to the Moonrise Towers, you may need to do battle with three different enemies. Gerringothe Thorm, Malus Thorm, and Thisobald Thorm will all try to stop you from continuing on with your quest, and each has their own way of doing that. Continue reading if you’d like to learn the two different ways to defeating Gerringothe Thorm!
Method #1: Trickery
Gerringothe Thorm is a toll collector in Baldur’s Gate 3, and she is preventing you from crossing a river as you travel along on your journey. When you initially begin speaking with her, you’ll learn that she is demanding gold, as a toll. While that seems reasonable enough, you will quickly realize that her appetite for gold is never-ending! If you refuse to give Gerringothe Thorm more gold after already paying her, then she will try to fight you. However, there is a way for you to pass by Gerringothe Thorm without actually battling her, and we believe that it’s much quicker and less time-consuming than the alternative.
Firstly, you need to pay Gerringothe Thorm a single gold piece. Sure, it sucks that you’ll have to part with it, but bear with us — it’s worth it. After you pay her, she will continue to insist on being given more payment in order to let you pass and continue across the river. As soon as she says this, you will have the opportunity to make a Deception or Persuasion check. In this part of the conversation, your character can attempt to convince Gerringothe Thorm that you are the new toll collector, and you’ve come to replace her on the bridge. If you are successful at tricking her, she will give you all of her gold and then blow up!
Method #2: Fighting
If you want to fight Gerringothe Thorm in battle instead of trying to convince her to step aside (or if you fail in doing so), then be warned. You’re in for a tough fight, as she has over 600 HP and can deal some pretty heavy damage. Your first step in fighting Gerringothe Thorm will be to search through the Tollhouse for flying skulls that are preventing you from breaking through her armor. We recommend that you spread your party all around the house so that you can track down the skulls and destroy them quickly.
Another piece of advice for this battle against Gerringothe Thorm in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to only use attacks which have a decent range. This is because the flying skulls can deal significant damage and it will be very difficult for you to destroy them when you’re up close and personal. Once you have destroyed the skulls and Gerringothe Thorm herself, you will receive the Twist of Fortune which is a moderately powerful weapon that you should definitely keep for later. Looks like the river crossing is now toll-free!
