Rebellion’s virtual reality-powered reinvention of 1980s arcade title Battlezone will still be coming to the PC via Oculus Rift, but some time after the game is released for the PS4’s VR device.
“We already confirmed Oculus Rift support last month but it’s too early to say when that version will follow” Rebellion say, in a statement issued to press. “The first platform it’ll launch on is PlayStation 4 as a PlayStation VR launch title”.
As more devices arrive on the market, this sort of timed exclusivity is likely to become just as common for VR titles as it is for non-VR cross-platform games.
Rebellion have some calming words for those wanting to get hold of Battlezone on the PC, implying that the wait may well be rewarded with an improved range of graphical options. “Hopefully the quality of our most recent PC releases for Sniper Elite 3 and Zombie Army Trilogy will reassure PC players that we intend to get the most out of their platform,” the company says.
There’s also a possibility of a non-VR version of Battlezone, but while it’s something Rebellion is “considering” they’re keen to stress “that’s not something we’re developing right now!”
If you missed the most recent footage from the game, here it is.
