DICE has recently posted a new developer blog responding to some of the feedback on Battlefield 2042. The futuristic first-person shooter has gotten off to a rough start, with fans unhappy at the number of features missing. This issue has only been made worse by the unsatisfying gunplay and questionable vehicle balance. Fortunately, we now know that the next Battlefield 2042 patch will partially address these concerns, with a hovercraft nerf on the horizon.
The hovercrafts in 2042 have been a serious problem since launch. They are massively overpowered featuring several strong weapons, heavy armor, smoke to disengage, and incredible mobility. Furthermore, they are capable of climbing up the sides of buildings, which while funny, can be frustrating at times.
Change is coming
The days of the hovercraft dominating Battlefield 2042 lobbies should come to an end with this upcoming nerf. Specifics aren’t listed but DICE explains that the hovercraft was initially designed to be “an alternative to the LATV4, but not an upgrade.” It is being re-balanced to better fit this role.
Adjustments to the game’s weapon bloom are also being introduced. Weapon gunfire spread will be globally decreased across all weapons when zoomed in and when moving. Equally, spread now decreases faster when pacing shots which should make tap and burst fire viable for long-range engagements.
Long-term franchise fans will be happy to hear that DICE has recognized that many players want to see “legacy features,” return. Legacy features refer to aspects of past Battlefield titles that are not currently in 2042, such as an end-of-match scoreboard, server browser, and voice chat. The Swedish developer is “carefully evaluating” if these features should be re-implemented.
Patch 2 for Battlefield 2042 will be coming on November 25. That is the patch that will introduce the bloom adjustments, hovercraft nerfs, and general stability fixes. A later third patch will follow in early December. This will include adjustments to certain Portal weapons and a nerf of the NTW-50 anti-material rifle. More details as to what patch 3 will introduce will be revealed in the near future.
