It’s been a long time since we’ve heard news of anything regarding the fabled Overwatch 2. It seemed like the original game was poised for lots of success, with high support in the Overwatch League and promising new updates. But when news of Overwatch 2 dropped, everything came to a standstill. The only info we had about the game was revealed during a Twitch stream that showcased some of the new maps and features, including a core change to the gameplay. Well, it looks like the developers are finally ready to release some more official information. They recently announced that more news for Overwatch is coming next week, along with a Bastion rework.
On September 25, during the Overwatch League finals, we’ll finally get some long-awaited updates on this elusive project. The next season of Overwatch League will also be using an early build of Overwatch 2, so perhaps the official release of the game is on the horizon?
Whee whoo, whee whoo
A Twitter post made by the official Overwatch account highlighted the updates we can expect next week. We’re getting more news about balance changes for Overwatch 2, including reworks for Sombra and Bastion. Both characters are controversial figures in the game, especially Bastion, who hasn’t found a strong niche in such a mobile game. With a full rework coming, the Overwatch 2 version of Bastion also got a new look with a nifty little hat.
Unfortunately, that’s all the news the Twitter post has. While a surprise announcement is possible, don’t get your hopes up. On the bright side, for those interested in the competitive side of Overwatch, we’re getting an exhibition match as well. One of Overwatch 2‘s major changes turns the size of each team to five playable characters instead of six. With role queue in place, each team can only bring one tank to battle. This is a major change to the core gameplay of Overwatch, so seeing pros duke it out with such a new format is definitely an interesting thought.
