Baldur’s Gate 3 players realize why Scratch is the best summon

Who's a good boy?

After playing Baldur’s Gate 3, some players now realize why Scratch is the best summon to have. There are a few different creatures you can summon throughout your playthrough, depending on your choices.

This loveable dog is not just a friendly face in camp, but a summon as well. Anytime you throw Scratch’s ball outside of camp, he’ll come join the fray. But why is he the best boy?

Scratch is now deemed the best summon by Baldur’s Gate 3 players

This popular Reddit post on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit has made players realize why Scratch is the best summon to have in your game. You may just think he’s a fun pet to have when in camp, but he’s a lot more useful than that.

According to the user “jdbrew,” Scratch has a ton of helpful abilities. He has the Help action, which can stabilize downed party members. This is essentially a free action since you don’t have to waste any of your main party members’ actions.

Not only that, but Scratch can bite enemies. While it doesn’t deal much damage, it can force spellcasters to make a Concentration check to keep their spell going. If you want to attempt to break an enemy’s spell, you can use Scratch to do so! I never actually thought of this, nor did I know Scratch was available to summon outside of camp during my own playthrough.

The Reddit user also explained how outside of combat Scratch can be a fifth attempt at succeeding Perception checks for the party. Who knew this dog was so useful while exploring and fighting enemies?

The other thing to note is that if Scratch dies in combat, you can apparently re-summon him after a Short Rest. This doesn’t exactly make sense, but I’m glad Scratch can’t die during combat, or else I’d weep too hard.

Other users in the replies added in other things Scratch can do, such as point out dig sites, or have a party member cast Aid or Heroes’ Feast on him for extra HP. Now you should try summoning Scratch more often!

If you just got Baldur’s Gate 3 over the holidays, you might be wondering how to even get Scratch. Never fear, because we’ve got a guide that covers exactly that.
