Baldur’s Gate 3 is already listed in the top 10 best games of all time, but will it stay there?

Is Baldur's Gate 3 the best game of all time?

It’s official — Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best video game of all time. Well, it’s in the top 10 best video games of all time, coming in tenth place. And this isn’t just in my opinion; Baldur’s Gate 3 is in the top 10 games of all time on Metacritic, a respectable site that compiles the reviews of critics and users.

On Metacritic, if you look up the best games of all time on all platforms and by Metascore (which is a compilation of critics’ reviews), you’ll find that Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently the tenth best video game ever made. Above it is Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Grand Theft Auto 4, SoulCalibur, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I don’t agree with some of these games being the best of all time, but I can agree that these top ten are some really solid games. This is a fairly accurate list of the best games of all time, but will Baldur’s Gate 3 continue to climb the ranks and surpass Ocarina of Time for the best game ever? Oh, and a side note, Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently listed as the best game of 2023, beating The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in both user and critic reviews.

When BG3 came out of early access, reviewers only had about four to five early days to begin reviewing the full game. And since BG3 is hundreds of hours long, there are dozens of reviews, including ours, that are still unscored. The sites that felt comfortable giving a score have only given BG3 90 and above, which has shaken out to give Baldur’s Gate 3 a 97 out of 100. But, there are still a lot of critics that have yet to give BG3 a score which means BG3 might not remain in the top 10 games of all time.

In my opinion, I think Baldur’s Gate 3 will stay in the top 10 video games of all time and maybe even rise higher. I personally think Baldur’s Gate 3 is better than the Super Mario Galaxy games, so I could see BG3 sliding into the top five video games of all time without a problem. And as incredible as Tears of the Kingdom is, I think Baldur’s Gate 3 could easily win the game of the year.

But what do you think? Is Baldur’s Gate 3 overhyped? And what about Starfield? Is Starfield gonna be as successful as Baldur’s Gate 3? We’ll have to wait and see.
