Baldur’s Gate 3 Find Your Belongings quest guide and choices (BG3)

You give that back right now!

Baldur’s Gate 3 presents a new quest almost every time you turn a corner. A lot of the early quests relate to the Emerald Grove region, which includes an area known as The Hollow. When you visit, you may find some of your possessions stolen, which gives you choices about how to proceed. Here is our guide for the Find Your Belongings quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Early in your adventure, you explore areas north of the beach where you crash land near the start of Act I. One of the most noteworthy destinations is the Emerald Grove, where you meet a camp populated by Tieflings. As you explore the camp and interact with a merchant, you’ll initiate a quest when a child takes some items from you. To complete the Find Your Belongings quest, find a way to enter the Tiefling Hideout and retrieve the stolen items.

Lose Your Belongings

The merchant you need to find to start the quest is Mattis. You encounter them along the eastern edge of The Hollow, on the lower level. After you deal with Mattis and play a game centered around a lucky ring, someone robs you. Almost immediately, you discover your pockets feel lighter. This realization triggers the Find Your Belongings quest. Talk with Mattis again, which triggers a second attempt at theft. This time, you meet Silfy, from whom you extract a confession. She admits to taking your items back to a hideout and then flees the scene.

If you descend the ladder just beyond where Mattis stands, you’ll reach a lower ledge with a Hole where Silfy disappeared. Its location even appears as a notation on your map. The smallest of characters can enter the Hole. That is your first option. Unfortunately, most folk (including my Bard) cannot fit through the opening. Your probable girth demands that you come up with an alternate way to find your belongings.

If you can’t fit through the hole, talk to Doni. You’ll need to head back up the ladder, past where Mattis stands. Proceed west along the trail you followed a moment ago to reach another small Tiefling. This is Doni, who communicates using grunts.

First, ask, ‘Are you all right?‘ Then choose ‘Grunt.‘ Next, choose to Leave. Doni heads over to a nearby pile of rocks. If you talk to Doni again and look in the direction he was staring, you can pass a Perception test and launch an Investigation to find the Concealed Hatch. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a way to open it, and Doni will have disappeared.

Help a Tiefling

To enter the hideout, you next need to clear the Investigate the Beach quest. To find that quest, continue along the path headed east past Mattis. A scene follows as you arrive at the Sacred Pool. Ask to pass through and Jeorna will reluctantly let you. Just past where she stood, take a sharp left and follow a sandy trail below a low stone arch.

As you ascend the trail, you reach a fork in the path and the Investigate the Beach quest commences. Follow the trail downhill to the Secluded Cove. At the shoreline, you meet Mirkon. Encourage him to resist the enchanting singing. Soon, a battle commences. You must defeat a group of Harpy foes. They are weak to projectile attacks and you can stop them from singing if you have a Silence spell. Their songs may let them temporarily control some party members.

Meet with Mol

After you defeat the Harpies, return to The Hollow and find Doni again. Now choose the option that lets you say, ‘Doni, isn’t it? I want to see the Dragon’s Lair.‘ When the dialog ends, you can check the hatch and open it to enter the Tiefling Hideout area whenever you like.

In the hideout, head forward and descend some ledges. Directly ahead, you’ll find Mol. Talk to them and answer, ‘Thought you might need help with something.‘ This activates another quest, Steal the Sacred Idol. You can also invest 20 gold in a new hideout.

The most important option (for your current purposes) starts with, ‘I’m shy a few of my belongings.‘ Once you follow that conversation through to its end, you finally complete the quest.

Note: This quest may be bugged for some players. It’s unclear what the cause might be, but the desired dialog option doesn’t always appear. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I entered and left the hideout a few times. A long rest also didn’t resolve the matter. Currently, there does not appear to be any solution.
