Persona 5 Tactica Game Phantom Thieves Palace

Atlus unveils Persona 5 Tactica, a tactics-based spinoff game

Familiar characters, unfamiliar gameplay.

Persona fans have quite a bit of new content to anticipate after the Xbox Games Showcase that aired today. Atlus already catered to fans’ Persona cravings with the announcement of Persona 3 Reload, a substantial remake of a revered entry in the series. But Atlus soon followed up that game announcement with the reveal of Persona 5 Tactica, the latest in a line of spinoffs related to Persona 5. As the name suggests, Persona 5 Tactica eschews the standard turn-based RPG combat seen across the series in favor of a grid-based tactical gameplay system. So in other words, those who love games like Fire Emblem may find something to latch onto here.

As the reveal trailer immediately makes apparent, Persona 5 Tactica changes more than just the gameplay style. This time around, the Phantom Thieves and other characters from Persona 5 sport a new chibi look that contrasts with the more traditional anime look adopted by most of the series’ entries. The contrast between the cutesy character designs and the hard rock soundtrack combined with the trailer’s grungy intro is something that viewers will probably either love or hate.

A new conundrum for the Phantom Thieves

In Persona 5 Tactica, the Phantom Thieves find themselves in a mysterious new world featuring a palace and armies of appropriately-themed villains. The Thieves come across a new faction called the Rebel Corps and team up with it to repel the new threats they face. Even with the change in gameplay style, the Thieves still have familiar options and commands at their disposal, including their guns and the titular Personas.

If Persona 5 Tactica seems like a spinoff game that would appeal to you, then you can dive in once it arrives on Xbox consoles and PC on November 17 this year. And just like with Persona 3 Reload, players who have a Game Pass subscription will have day one access to Persona 5 Tactica.
