Atari Threatens Legal Action Against AITD Reviews

This article is over 16 years old and may contain outdated information

Alone in the Dark hit the shops today but over the past week numerous reviews have popped up on European websites. According to sites such as Norowegian site Gamereactor, Atari are threatening legal action against what Atari say are reviews of illegal copies of the game. Early scores have been coming in at a very poor 3/10 which is not good news for Atari, this was one of their big titles for this year.Sites who have posted reviews state they picked up copies at retailers earlier in the week as some retailers were selling the game early. Not so far fetched, this does happen from time to time with so-called big releases.Atari has so far declined to comment on whether they were taking legal action or not, but then again if they are taking legal action, they are hardly going to issue a statement.Gamer.no contacted Kotaku and said “The review was based on a retail copy obtained from a store on Tuesdaythis week. Atari contacted us just minutes after it was published, claiming that our review is probably based on a preview or piratedcopy, and requested it to be removed. We never removed it, of course.”With stories now filtetring through of ad campaigns being cancelled on sites who Atari claim have posted reviews based on illegal code, Atari appear to have been rather upset at the scores. We’ll be taking a look at the game in the not so distant future here at IncGAmers so we’ll reserve judgement until then.
