ASUS X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme motherboard revealed

Time to get extreme!

ASUS has announced its latest entry into the high-end motherboard market with the new X570 ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme motherboard. The new motherboard is developed to support various AMD AM4 socket processors, including the Ryzen 5000 Series, 5000 G-Series, 4000 G-Series, 3000 Series, and more.

As an E-ATX form factor motherboard, the X570 ROG Crosshair Extreme is powered by a 24-pin ATX and dual 8-pin EPS connectors. This is then tied to an 18+2 phase design for top-level power with VRM heatsinks to keep temperatures cooler under high loads.

How extreme is it?

The motherboard features four DDR4 RAM slots for up to 128GB of memory, though no maximum speed is specified as of writing. That said, there’s a good chance that it will support up to DDR4-5100 MHz if paired with a Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 Series CPU.

The ASUS X570 ROG Crosshair VII Extreme comes with six SATA III ports and an impressive five M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots. Three of those five slots will connect directly to the CPU while the other two are connected to the onboard X570 chipset. Other PCIe slots include two 4.0 x16 expansion slots alongside a PCIe 3.0 x1 that is linked to the X570 chipset.

The motherboard includes eight USB Type-A ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the rear I/O panel. The Thunderbolt ports, which are starting to become more readily available on various AMD motherboards, allow for a DisplayPort 1.4 and Thunderbolt video. There’s even two DisplayPort-In connections.

Networking on the board features a 10 Gigabit Ethernet with Marvell’s AQtion AQC113CS controller and a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet using Intel’s I225-V controller. If you can’t hardwire, it is equipped with 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E with support for 2.4, 5, and 6GHz frequencies. Lastly, it comes with Bluetooth v5.2 for those that want to connect even more to their gaming rig.

Like most major announcements from ASUS, the company failed to provide two important pieces of information: availability and price. PC Invasion has reached out directly to ASUS for that information and will update the article when it becomes available.
