Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is having a rough news week leading up to the big Ubisoft Forward event. The game suffered another leak via Reddit earlier today, this time revealing gameplay of a boss fight. What’s interesting about the leak, though, are the mystical powers of the boss.
The footage reveals a clash between the protagonist and a magic-wielding Druid warrior known as Cordelia. The battle starts after Cordelia mistakes the player as a foe. She immediately summons a dark storm, draws twin swords, and attacks the player. The Druid boss boasts abilities like calling down lightning strikes, teleportation, and ghost-summoning.
Cordelia is a more than capable duelist, too. She blocks, grapples, and thrusts when up close, making her a balanced enemy to fight. Her animations look fairly polished in this fight, though a few animations do seem like potential placeholders.
Pre-previews of Valhalla
There’s still a clearly marked “work in progress” stamp in the corner of the screen. It’s important to remember that the developers didn’t intend to publicly show this footage. Even so, the game appears to be coming together rather well at this point.
These occasional supernatural encounters seem to be the norm for the series going forward now. It may remind some of us of The Witcher, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Ubisoft has its own series with a distinct identity, so if they want to challenge The Witcher, the competition is welcome by many.
Despite the action focus of Valhalla, players will still have the flexibility to use different playstyles. This video, along with the leak from last weekend, showed glimpses of the menus and new progression systems. We can see that there are three main trees to develop: the raven, the bear, and the wolf. Today’s leak showed that each class will suit particular playstyles. We’ll wait until Ubisoft officially lifts the veil on those before going into further detail.
Leaks are always disappointing for developers, but we still don’t know much about the next Assassin’s Creed. Hopefully, the Ubisoft Forward event will show off tons of details that win us over on Valhalla. Ubisoft could certainly use a win after the multiple scandals that have rocked the company recently.
