[Update: April 29 @ 4:45 PM EST] Ubisoft has confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Following today’s teaser by BossLogic, the company reported that the full reveal of the game will occur on April 30 at 11 AM EST. It will be shown on the Assassin’s Creed YouTube channel. The finished art by BossLogic can be found at the bottom of the post.
As a Scandinavian descendant, I always wanted an Assassin’s Creed game based on the rough-and-tumble life of the Vikings. I mean, we’ve slit throats across time and all over the world, from Egypt to France. But at long last, Ubisoft seems to be granting my wish. The developer has teamed up with artist BossLogic for a live teaser of a Viking-themed Assassin’s Creed. And we believe it will be called Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. A fitting name.
The tease began earlier this morning on Twitch and YouTube, promising hours of fresh artwork for the game. Artist BossLogic has been bending his creative wit to produce some gorgeous Viking-themed art. It appears the game will include a range of environments, such as battles with castles looming in the distance and snow-swept mountains against a sea filled with Viking ships. He’s still at it, even at the time of writing — bringing more detail to the ships in the aforementioned sea piece.
To the halls of my ancestors
Based on the art and what we know of Viking history, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla could take us all around Northern Europe. Following in its ancestors’ path, the game will almost certainly include traveling in ships across the North Sea. You’ll likely step foot not only in Norway or Denmark, but also the British Isles sometime during the Viking Age. Our own Tim McDonald claims that some of BossLogic’s art appears to be the British Isles, and since he’s our resident Brit, I have to take his word for it.
So, you may be wondering how we got the name Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. For some time, rumors have circled that the next game would include Vikings and be titled Ragnarok. However, Gaming Route discovered a domain claimed by Ubisoft today. The company registered the domain assassinscreedvalhalla.com, which leads us to believe this may be the true name for the upcoming title.
You can watch the live stream below, which should run for a few more hours.
