Assassin’s Creed III ‘Tyranny of King Washington’ DLC Revealed

Ubisoft has recently announced new DLC for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III and it’s certainly a curve ball. Set in an alternative universe in history, The Tyranny of King Washington is a single-player campaign that will be spread over several DLC packs and features George Washington as, that’s right, king of the United States.

“As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges,” Ubisoft explains. “Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend.”

The campaign will be sold over 3 content packs which will be available through the Assassin’s Creed III Season Pass. The Season Pass will be available for purchase on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC for $24.99 (2400 Microsoft Points). The pass will include 5 content packs in total as well as maps and characters for multiplayer. Buying the pass will result in a 25% savings versus buying the packs individually and Season Pass owners will have access to the DLC a week early.

History is our playground – and AC teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period,” said Ubisoft executive producer Sebastien Puel said of the Washington content. “While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened.’”

Assassin’s Creed III will be released for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 30, November 18 for Wii U, and finally released on November 23 for PC. The downloadable content will also be available for Wii U, though no time frame has been announced for the release dates.

For those less familiar on the details surrounding Washington, the actual George Washington was an extraordinarily humble man who shied away from power. This it the first time the Assassin’s Creed series will have changed the events of history dramatically to create an alternate timeline to play with.

I don’t know about all of you, but I am absolutely fascinated by this historical 180. I’m normally not a frequent buyer of DLC but I may have to make an exception for this case…
