Online stores have had the bad habit of sometimes jumping the gun on release dates. In the case of Immortals Fenyx Rising, for example, the Microsoft Store was a little hasty outing the game’s launch of December 3 — three months before schedule. There’s a chance it may have happened again. As spotted by VGC (via Reddit), an official art book for Hogwarts Legacy is hinting that the game is heading out in December this year.
Amazon UK has listed The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy: Exploring the Unrwitten Wizarding World for a December 6 date. Normally, merch like art books tend to release alongside games to avoid potential early spoilers. The December release certainly suggests Hogwarts Legacy will arrive either on or before the date. According to VGC, the book had a placeholder date of December 31 before the recent change. As of this writing, the date for the book hasn’t changed.
Of course, the change in date provides no guarantee the game will arrive on that day. Hell, the release date for the book may change before the end of the week back to the more vague ‘December 31.’ Store leaks aren’t uncommon, and they’re not always accurate. Folks once believed GameStop leaked the April 26, 2016 release date for Mafia III — the game launched in October.
Never a guarantee
Hogwarts Legacy itself was already delayed out of 2021. The game was originally scheduled to arrive last year, but will now launch this winter. And again, just based on how the last few years have been, there’s no real promise it’ll make a 2022 launch either. Sure, it would be nice to see it arrive by or before December, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG set in the magical and whimsical world of Harry Potter. It takes place around two centuries before the books, placing your custom-made character in one of the magical houses of the eponymous school of witchcraft and wizardry.
